Considine, John J. Jr.

Pittsford: Born in Rochester on October 28, 1930, and passed away in Rochester on October 16, 2016 at age 85—narrowly escaping the 2016 election.

Born to John and Helen Considine in his beloved 10th Ward, he graduated from Aquinas Institute, LeMoyne College, and the Cornell Law School before serving in the U.S. Army as a Special Agent in the 66th Counter Intelligence Corps in Western Germany.

In 1961, he married Joyce Mooney, who predeceased him in 2014 after more than five decades of marriage. He was thankful for the lifetime of love and support he received from her, and for the family they created together.

John loved the practice of law, which he began in 1957, and Joyce frequently expressed the hope that she would be reincarnated as one of his clients. For many, he was unquestionably the first person to call in a jam. John was active in the affairs of the Monroe County Bar Association, serving both in high-profile positions of honor and in practically invisible positions of quiet service. He also served on the boards of religious, charitable, and business corporations. He was affiliated with travel youth soccer and worked in the Pittsford Mustang Soccer program for almost a decade. At the end of his career in 2011, he was a member of the law firm of McConville, Considine, Cooman & Morin.

John belonged to the Kent Club and Monroe Golf Club, and he had a competitive streak at the duplicate bridge table.

In addition to his parents and Joyce, John was predeceased by his brother, Kevin M. Considine; by his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Ellen Marie (Edwin) Rague, James I. (Kathleen) Mooney, and John E. (Kathleen) Mooney; and by his nephew, James Rague.

He is survived by his three children, Thomas M. (Helen) Considine of Wilmette, Illinois; Sarah E. (Mark) Grannis of Chevy Chase, Maryland; and Kevin P. (Christine) Considine of Lafayette, California; by his ten grandchildren: T.J., Jack, Elizabeth, Marta, Michael, Kevin, Will, Carolyn, Charlie, and Carter; by his sister-in-law Katherine Considine of Syracuse; by his brother- (and sister-) in-law Thomas T. (Norma) Mooney; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, clients, classmates, and unnamed co-conspirators whom he loved.

The family will receive friends at the Anthony Funeral Chapel (2305 Monroe Ave., Brighton) on Friday, October 21, from 4 to 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Louis Church (64 S. Main St., Pittsford) on Saturday, October 22, at 9 AM.
