Peter Pecor Obituary

Peter C Pecor

Peter C. Pecor - born on February 15th, 1947 in Rochester, NY and passed away peacefully on January 12th, 2021 at the age of 73.

Peter is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 52 years, Carole (Fazio) Pecor of Penfield, NY, his two children, Michelle (William) Schrouder and Scott (Karrey) Pecore and four grandchildren; Hannah and Hadley Schrouder of Penfield, NY and Carson and Harris Pecore of Tampa, FL. He also leaves behind many close friends and family. Peter is predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Lucille (Privitera) Pecor and in-laws Joseph and Carrie Fazio.

Peter was a pillar of his community within his hometown of Irondequoit and throughout Monroe County. He was as a role model for countless business colleagues and took unprecedented pride in living and working in the greater Rochester, NY area.

After graduating from McQuaid Jesuit High School in 1964, Pecor attended Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY to pursue a bachelor's degree in Industrial Relations and a minor in Economics. After graduating from college in 1968, Peter entered the commercial banking business where he spent nearly 30 years. Concurrently, he was involved in local politics and was a member of the Monroe County Legislature from 1991 to 2000 and devoted his time to nearly a dozen professional and community organizations, including; Huther Doyle, The United Way, Finger Lakes Workforce Investment Board, BOCES 1, International Association of Workforce Professionals, Regional Development Council-Nine County Region, Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development, Rochester General Hospital Foundation, Town of Irondequoit Councilman and Planning Board (1982-1990). He was the 2019 recipient of the Rochester Business Journal Technology & Manufacturing Chairperson's Award.

Pecor held the post of Regional Administrator for the New York State Department of Labor from 2000 to 2008 and also served on the Monroe County & Rochester Workforce Investment Board. In 2008, he was named the Executive Director of Rochesterworks, where he was a dedicated, selfless & inspirational leader until the day of his passing.

Peter had a lifelong love affair with Irondequoit Bay and Lake Ontario and enjoyed spending time with his family boating every summer. He enjoyed watching professional baseball and college basketball with Carole, loved to cook for his family, support his grandchildren at every event possible and host social gatherings with friends, laughing and reminiscing over cocktails (a Dry Rob Roy on the Rocks with a Twist was his favorite) on their deck.

He loved to tackle DIY projects around the house (never reading directions) and was often found climbing ladders in odd places, painting and doing yardwork until late into the evenings.

Peter was the head of his family, a true role model as a father and grandfather.

I worked with Pete maybe 35 years ago, when he took a short hiatus into investment banking. A true gentleman who was winsome and generous. I just learned of his passing and was so sorry. Gods blessing to all who continue on.

Our condolences to the Pecor family at this very sad time. Peter was always a gentleman and someone who I very much enjoyed being with and conversing with at a few of our family gatherings organized by our mutual cousin Ed Ferrante. One Christmas Eve he invited me, my wife, my aunt and two of my cousins to his home with his family for dinner. We all had a wonderful time and have always appreciated his gracious hospitality. Sincerely, Art and Bea Zazzaro

Pete was such a Great Guy - I'm so sad to hear of his passing. I held the same position he had as Executive Director for the GLOW Workforce Development Board. I retired 4 years ago- but had many years working with Pete on multiple Regional Projects. My Prayers and Thoughts to the Pecor Family-
