Roy Farnsworth Obituary

Farnsworth,

Roy J. (Bud)

Canandaigua: 92, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, patriot, and friend died peacefully Friday, June 14.

Bud was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy, his daughter, Janet Elaine, his parents Roy A. and Ella May Farnsworth, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mignon and Richard Coon, Ethel and Earl Geer, May and Robert Gordon, and brothers-in-law Pete Philley and Bill Segbers.

Bud leaves behind his son, Randy (Margaret) Farnsworth, his daughter, Martie Farnsworth Buttaccio and his three granddaughters; Stephanie Buttaccio, Jennifer Buttaccio, and Alexandra Farnsworth. He also leaves behind two sisters, Laura Philley and Carolyn (Tat) Segbers and many nieces and nephews.

Bud grew up and lived most of his life in Shortsville, NY before moving to Canandaigua when he retired in 1986. He entered the US Army Air Corps and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant pilot in December 1943. In May of 1944 he was assigned to the 8th Air Force Heavy Bomber Group in Tibenham, England, flying 35 missions with his crew of ten in his B24 Liberator, "Fearless Fosdick."

During his active duty in the military Bud received the Distinguishing Flying Cross, the Air Medal with four battle stars and numerous other military honors before receiving an honorable discharge as a Major in October 1945.

Bud came into the family automotive business in 1946, and became the Chevy-Olds Dealer in 1953 and the Chevy dealer in Canandaigua in 1977. He was a member of the Turner-Shrader American Legion Post for over 65 years, past President of the Shortsville Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Directors of the State Bank of Shortsville (currently Bank of America). He was a member of the Shortsville Lions Club and life-long member of the Presbyterian Church of Shortsville.

His passion for selling Chevrolets, Buicks, GMC's, Cadillacs and discussing his military service was legendary.

Bud cared deeply and will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the employees of Farnsworth Chevrolet, Randall Buick-GMC-Cadillac and Randall Chevrolet and his lifelong customers.

Randy and Family,
First I would like to extend my thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Next I must tell you it was an honor and privilege to meet your father. God placed him on this earth for 92 years and he never wasted a minute as a husband, father, business leader, community leader and a member of our greatest generation, a decorated World War II pilot. Yes indeed the days to come there will be sadness and a void, I know the kids will miss him on flag day when he would come to Red Jacket Elementary to talk to the students about flying his big bomber, their eyes lit up and Bud held their attention with his very animated history lesson. Of couse people will miss his presence, a very optimistic person with a great sense of humor. In the end he has left behind a legacy that has made many of us proud. He is now free to rejoin your mother and his loved ones that have gone before him. God Bless you Bud and Thank You!

I will miss the WWII stories I grew up listening to, how he started Farnsworth Chevy, the story of Dot and him and the love they shared, and their beautiful children and how proud he was of them. Oh yeah the stories he told of my father and him!
