William Bruckel Obituary
Avon: March 20, 2014 at age 94. He is survived by his children, Joan Bruckel (Charles Witmer), William (Cindy) Bruckel, Jr., Nancy (John) Elliot, Martha (Jeffrey) Fisk, Suzanne (Robert) Monaghan, John Bruckel, Peter (Michelle) Bruckel, Thomas (Trish) Bruckel; daughter-in-law, Debra Iler; sister, Molly Cole; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Jane Bruckel; son, Jerome David Bruckel; grandson, David Elliot; brother, Jerry Bruckel. He was a 1942 graduate of the University of Rochester and a 1948 graduate of Harvard Law School. Bill was a practicing attorney in Avon for 28 years. He was a US Navy Commander. He was a Communications Officer on the USS Toro in WWII.
Family and friends are invited to call Sunday 1-5 PM at the Stephenson-Dougherty Funeral Home Inc., 350 Genesee St., Avon. His Funeral Mass will be held Monday 9 AM at St. Agnes Church, Avon. Interment, St. Agnes Cemetery, Avon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Joseph Gallipeau American Legion Post #294, P.O. Box 294, Avon, NY 14414

Sorry to lose another WWII vet and good person who left an amazing legacy...I enjoyed seeing him in recent years at the annual 4th of July festivities in which even though I wasn't technically family I was always treated that way... condolences to the Elliots and entire extended family.

He was certainly a unique, gifted, and respected man....who made significant contributions to all whose life he touched whether gently or forcefully. I will certainly never forget him. Joan, Mom and I send heartfelt sympathy to you and the entire Bruckel Family. Mom and Bill were in the Avon school at the same time as you already know. Of course I have such fond memories of our younger days growing up in Avon and with your parents and siblings. Peace be to you Bill, and prayers of comfort to the family.

My prayers are with you and all your clan at you're Dad passing. I remember tacking up election posters for your Father when he ran for Judge back in the '60's. Your Dad took me and Babe to a U of R vs Hobart football game when we were in the 7th grade. Your Dad was always someone I looked up to with respect. Your entire family is filled with exceptional individuals. Your parents did an amazing job raising you.

Heartfelt sympathy to the entire Bruckel family. Mr. and Mrs. Bruckel were great friends of my late parents. Our U of R dads had wonderful mutual respect and affection for each other.
Hard to see the WWII generation leave us at a time when their honor and stability is needed most.

Dear Bruckel Family: Please know that the New Mexico Coles are thinking of you and sending our sincerest sympathies. Bill was such an incredible person. He never knew a stranger and lived life to the fullest. He cherished all of his family and friends and was there in a moment's notice when someone needed him. I am so fortunate to have known him and Jane. They both leave behind a remarkable legacy. He will be missed.

Peter and family, you have my deepest sympathy on the loss of your father and my friend. I have many fond memories of your father in his Avon office (at William J. Bruckel Drive) and at various family gatherings that I was fortunate to be a part of. He will be missed by many.
