Rex Kirby Obituary

Rex Harold Kirby

Rex Harold Kirby of Slidell (formerly of Sanger) passed away at his home on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the age of 61. The son of John Harold and Theda Maye (Scoggin) Kirby, he was born on April 13, 1956 in Denton, Texas.

He was a graduate of Sanger High School and went to work for Victor Technologies in 1974 where he gave 43 years of service as a machinist. On November 22, 1986, he married Myra S. Robinson in Sanger. They were members of Ridin' for the Brand Cowboy Church in Bolivar. Rex was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed camping. His favorite pastime was time spent with his family. He loved his wife, children and extended family. He always had a big smile and according to his family, he was always there if you needed him no matter what the circumstances were. He was a jokester and could always keep them on their toes and a smile on their face.

He was preceded in death by his father and is survived by his wife Myra of Slidell, his mother, Theda Kirby of Sanger, three daughters Holly Michelle Wood of Tioga, Shawna Denise Muniz of Ponder and Vera Laverne Kirby of Ponder, one son Bryan Henry Kirby of Pilot Point, two sisters LeAnn Flowers of Sanger and Julie Jackson of Sanger, one brother Victor Kirby of Sanger, and six grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 6pm to 8pm on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Coker Funeral Home in Sanger. A graveside service will be held at 10am on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 in the Pavilion at the Sanger Cemetery. Roger Marsh will officiate the services.

Such a sweet guy. He was always smiling - never complaining. He will be missed!

Rex was a wonderful and great Uncle to my children Christopher and Melissa Kirby. Rex saved Christopher from bleeding to death during a hunting trip Jan. 1, 1998. Rex stepped in for every procedure and was there for both Chris and I. He never hesitated being there even though it took time away from his family. I do not know how I would have dealt with all the corrective surgeries that Christopher had to have if it wasn't for Rex. I am thankful and bless that the Lord had Rex with Christopher on that dreadful hunting trip. Rex will always remain in my heart for all he did for Christopher and me. Rest in Peace you will always be a Guardian Angel to Christopher. You will never be forgotten.
