Richard Sale Obituary

Richard L. Sale, PhD

Richard Sale was born in Shreveport, LA on November 5, 1944 to C.A. and Elizabeth Sale. He died May 16, 2022 while on a vacation with his wife Kathi in Spain.

Richard grew up in Tyler, Texas and attended Tyler Jr. College and continued his education at the University of Houston, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and later earned his PhD at Texas Woman's University. His journey led him from Odessa, Abilene, Dallas, Canyon, Denton, and Stephenville where he taught at Tarleton State University. He and Kathi moved back to Denton to enjoy their retirement close to their children and grandchildren. They were married for 53 years.

He celebrated diversity and loved all people without judgment. These qualities and his outgoing personality lead him to be on many local boards including the Arts and Jazz Festival and Theater Denton. He also loved previewing films for the Thin Line Festival each year.

Richard was an active member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church where he served on many committees. He was an Elder, teacher of the Pathfinder's SS class, choir member and co-leader of Theology on Tap.

Richard's greatest gift was his love for his children Chris [Aimee}, Angela {Ted}, and Jeremy {Kerime}. He adored his grandchildren and was an active part in their activities whether it involved sporting events; musical concerts, whether orchestra or rock; horseback riding, or 3 hour gymnastic meets. Lauren, Natalie, Ethan, Jaden, Austin and Paloma will miss their goofy, fun loving Poppy very much.

Memorial gifts may be made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church or a Denton charity of your choosing.

A memorial service will be held at the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 300 West Oak St. Denton, Texas 76201, at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 5, 2022. The service will be live streamed on the St. Andrew website.

Every time a memory of Richard (pictures I took at meetings) pops up I smile remembering his kindness. We often mention his fondness for M & M at WW meetings and smile. He was a blessing to all whose life he touched.

I am so sorry to here about Dickie. I went to church and high school with him. We were good friends even if he was two years older. He made sure I got on the yearbook staff and we were in the church choir together. It seems he continued to be the precious individual I remember all those years ago, God bless you all.

Sending my condolences to the family. I attended TWU while Richard was the Baptist Student Union minister. He made BSM activities so much fun and helped to foster and grow friendships among the students! We had such good times together!

Richard was my coach at WW for several years. I counted him as a friend and don´t think I could have done it without his friendship and encouragement. He would call everyone that step though the WW door by their first name. We were sad to see him retire but know his passion was traveling. He was living his passion. He will be missed by all that knew him and will we all have fond memories of him. Praying for his wife and the family. God bless.

I have been so sad about Dick´s death. What a great guy, fun friend, creative minister, lover of life and humanity, and delightful human being. Love and care to Kathi and family. May you sense God´s embrace of comfort and presence. Raye Nell
