Robert Goodman Obituary

Robert C. "Bob" Goodman passed away at his home in Sanger, Texas on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. He was born in Wells, Texas to Cecil and Ola Goodman on August 26, 1934. Bob graduated from Texas A&M University in 1956. He enjoyed a career as a chemical engineer for over 30 years then spent the next 30+ years fighting drought, mesquite, and privet while raising cattle on the Chain 7 Ranch, north of Denton. He also enjoyed quietly supporting many organizations and often surprising us with a well-timed one-liner.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jane Faust.

Bob is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Kay Williams Goodman, his sister, Christene Richardson, his three children, Barbara Hokamp, Lindy Evans, and Rob Goodman, their spouses, 10 grandchildren with their spouses, 8 great-grandchildren, 40 cows, a dog, a cat, and an old pony. They will gratefully remember Bob/Dad/Grandaddy for his love, devotion, and unflagging interest in his family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in honor of Bob to the Denton County Livestock Association Blue Ribbon Scholarship, the Cumberland Youth and Family Services Supervised Independent Living Program, or a children's charity of your choice. We can all honor his memory every time we play with a child, open a Dr. Pepper, or scoop Blue Bell with friends and family.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on April 11 at the family ranch.

Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. I just called out of the blue and Kay let me know of Bob's passing. Bob Goodman was one of the finest men I have ever known. I had one of the greatest opportunities to know Bob and live on the Chain 7. The years living in the little tin roof house and working with and spending time with him and Kay are among my best memories (outside the times Kay got me with the cattle prod working cows). He was a remarkable man, had an unmatched work ethic, and was a great role model. He had 39 yrs on me and would work me into the ground. Speaking with Kay I reminisced how I used to give him a hard time about all the wire he saved from hay bails and the stall full of feedbags... I kidded him once there wasn't enough brush on the property to fill all them bags. Then one day I needed a feedbag for something and I didn't have one around. I know up in Heaven he is stringing old fence together with left over baling wire.

With all my respect,
Michael Kavanaugh

Bob Goodman was the dad of my best friend growing up, Lindy Goodman. He was always patient, kind, and thoughtful. When I had kids of my own, Bob and Kay invited my family up to the Chain 7 ranch so my kids could ride horses, feed the cows, and see the beauty of nature. Bob was incredibly warm and kind to my kids, treating them as though they were his own grandchildren. While we were riding the kids around, Bob shared details of his engineering accomplishments at TI, which as an engineer myself, was fascinating and inspiring.

Also, Bob was a very practical man. When Lindy and I were growing up, Bob had two pairs of shoes. He had his work cowboy boots and his dress cowboy boots. When TI planned to send him to a team building event that involved outdoor athletic activities, Lindy had quite a time convincing her dad that it just might be time to get a pair of sneakers. I believe Lindy and I were both in college or a bit past that at the time. We will certainly miss his kindness, his sharp wit, and his smile.

Warmly,
Jessica "Jeddy" Landisman Williams

I keep thinking of fond memories with Bob. Wildcat games and after-game gatherings. Visiting at the ranch. Bob and Kay coming out to see me at the Sanger rest stop during Bike MS. Seeing him at TI when I was a summer intern. There are far too many to count. I'll miss him greatly. Thinking of you all.

We have so many wonderful memories of Bob from 40+ years! Always present with a helping hand and a kind word, Bob was generous in all things. Kay and Bob were always there for me as a child, and they shared the ranch with my children who also have fond memories of Mr. Bob and the ponies. His gentle presence and kind actions will be missed.

Bob Goodman (Farmer Bob) was one of the finest men I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. New to the Dallas area in 1988, I met Bob and Kay who came be great friends. I have never met a man with a stronger work ethic, a duty to giving back or more love for family than Bob. He will be missed by all who knew him.

While it has been decades since I last saw him, I have a distinct memory from about 45-50 years ago.

My sister Jessica was best friends with Lindy from a very young age.

Bob never seemed to rest. He was always working on something around the house or one of their vehicles.

The Goodmans had a Chinook at the time - a mini camper based on a Toyota pickup. Keep in mind this is the early 1970´s. Probably not a lot of folks had the small number of Japanese vehicles then.

I remember talking with Bob in their driveway and when I asked him what he was working on, he answered that he was trying to get rid of some rattling in the camper. I was impressed right then. And still am. Something so small, but he put perhaps an entire weekend day into taking care of it.

I can only imagine how devoted Bob was to tending their Chain 7 Ranch for the last few decades, and the creatures there, having seen how much he loved his family and took care of things when they were still our neighbors in Plano.

My deepest condolences to Kay, Barbara, Lindy and Rob and to the extended family.

Andrew Landisman,
