David Hughes Obituary

Dave Hughes, 67, of Highlands Ranch Colorado passed away September 25, 2012 while fly fishing on the Flathead River in Montana. David John Hughes was born to Dr.John H. Hughes and Eunice Ione Hughes on September 11, 1945 in Tacoma Washington. Dave graduated from Bellarmine Prep High School in 1963 and Gonzaga University in 1967. He taught middle school for three years in Spokane Washington before beginning a 35 year career in mortgage banking. Dave loved spending time with family and friends. Mention Gonzaga basketball, Notre Dame football, golf, fly fishing, horse racing, reading, or family, and you were immediately in his circle. He never turned down an opportunity to travel and explore the world. Las Vegas was a favorite destination! Dave's genuine care and concern for others was evident in his engaging manner. He especially enjoyed volunteering his time at the Food Bank of the Rockies. His love of life influenced anyone fortunate enough to know Dave. Dave is preceded in death by his grandparents John and Hazel Hughes and Harold and Nellie Hall, his father Dr. John H. Hughes, his mother-in-law Mary Granier, sisters-in-law Annette Granier and Trish Granier. Dave is survived by his wife of 44 years Carmela Granier Hughes, sons Jeff (Laurie), Ryan (Jen), granddaughters Lily and Ava, mother Eunice Ione Hughes, brother John Hughes (Kathy), sisters Mary Kay Allen, Nancy Boyle (Greg), brothers-in-law Louie Granier, Jim Granier (Judie), and Frank Granier (Libby). He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins,nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated for Dave on Tuesday October 9,2012 at 1:00 pm at St. Thomas More Catholic Church 8035 S. Quebec St. Centennial CO 80112. A reception in McCallin hall will immediately follow the Mass. To Dave's Family,

My name is Joe DiCesare and Dave was my boss in California while working for The Associates/Ford. I just learned of his passing and though I haven't seen him in over twenty years, I am deeply saddened. We used to have great talks about sports (Baseball specifically ), the mortgage business and just current events in general. To this day, every now and then I think of him. He had an impact on me because he was a bit older than I was and he was always available and generous with advice. He was a great boss, and a very generous and warm person.
