I am sure sad to hear about Gary Lee's death. Awful news. He was such a consumately cool guy. Walked his talk, lived his own lifestyle in full-tilt, Grade-A fashion, was always down-to-earth and welcoming. He was good to so many music makers in this town, too. There won't be another like him in Denver or anyplace else. But I'm glad he was living his dream and pursuing his brand of happiness right up to the end. To quote Johnny Cash, "Drive on Gary Lee."

Diana, Mom and Lee and I want to tell you how sorry we are for the loss of Gary. Mom cried because it reminded her of the loss of her son Jeff. She knows your pain and wishes that you didn't have to endure it. Lee and I will keep you in our hearts. You were so gracious to us in your home when we shared meals with you and I remember you coming to dads funeral and your warm smile to ease our day. We wish you that today and everyday.

Tonight I tried so hard to get out of work to go to GL's signing. As I rushed around my unit and thought about not only the people in crisis I was serving I couldn't help to stop a moment to not only to think about GL, his family, and their crisis this week. While I wasn't close to him in recent years, I always tried to visit him when I was in town. I was so happy to visit with him a few times since I have returned and think of the fun times at the Skylark, the Shoe, and Gary Lee's. The laughs, thoughtful conversation, dancing, and the serious talks have always meant so much to me and so many of his friends. Gary Lee was an amazing man that the deeper we have gotten into the past week the more I see that he brought a community together. Gary Lee you are an inspiration to me and such a kind man. I'm sorry I couldn't make it tonight, but I will certainly be there tomorrow to celebrate your life and your trip to the Motorclub in the sky.

I met Gary about 20 or so years ago, when I worked at Sushi Den. I then followed all all his moves from the Skylark, The Horseshoe and of course GLMC&G. He was always so welcoming. I am glad to have known the man. Words: kind, caring, genuine, accepting, my friend. Rest well sir. xoxo

I only had the opportunity to meet Gary Lee a handful of times, but he always greeted me as if I were an old friend. He brought many gifts to this world, but his ability to make those around him feel comfortable, happy, and safe may have been his greatest. I doubt I will ever be able to mix a cocktail as well as he could, but I will do my best and drink a toast to you, Gary Lee. You left a positive impression on more people than you ever could have known, and your absence is breaking all of those hearts.

Gary Lee was a character on Broadway we all loved. We still expect to see him walking up the street with Clarence in tow. He was compassionate, kind, and quirky at the same time. We will miss his off-color humor and his welcoming hugs.

What can I say but you are one of my favorite memories from Denver. Always welcoming always a good story and one of the few that new how to really make a drink. Not only that but make you feel like an old friend that's been gone a while even if you just got to town. While I missed seeing you in your beautiful self made bar and grill. I just moved to Denver, and I just met Gary. I went into the Motor Club during UMS because my girlfriend, who already lives here, said it was a cool place. I started commenting on all the unique engine part art that was everywhere, and Gary came up, introduced himself, and gave me a tour. What a great guy. He was totally stoked that I appreciated all of the pieces in his bar. We joked about the "Geddy Lee" thing, and I left there feeling that I had just made a new friend, and that I would be back to the Motor Club as frequently as possible to see some good local music and to hopefully share a beer with Gary Lee. Unfortunately, I never got that chance. I barely knew him, yet I will truly miss him. I feel for his longtime friends and family. He was obviously one of the good ones.

I was so glad to be there on the 2nd anniversary when your sign was erected. You were so proud, and deserved all the accolates and love that were coming back to you. My sadness for the family is immeasurable. Gary Lee was an icon. I remember one time while he was helping remodel my condo, we had to go to Home Depot. While standing in the check out line I hear...."Gary Lee?" We looked over at the customer service counter and it was one of his millions of acquaintances. I said Really? Is there anyone that you don't know? He laughed and said it amazes me Jenn....they're everywhere. His magnetic attraction to others was such a blessing. Thank you Gary for everything you did not only for me but for each and every life you touched in one way or another. Your legend will live on. God bless the family and provide the strength to carry on through the upcoming times.
