HOBBS, HAROLD Harold Hobbs was born in Lurgan, Northern Ireland, and attended Carrick Elementary School in Sloan Street and Lurgan Technical Institute in William Street. It was from there he went to work for John Morton, the owner of the Lurgan Mail newspaper as a Linotype operator, when they were located in Windsor Avenue. He worked for the "Mail" from 1950 to 1957. Harold attended Hill Street Presbyterian Church, and was extremely proud of the long relationship his family had with the church. Harold was an avid supporter of Glenavon Football Club and traveled all over Northern Ireland with them. At that time he was secretary/treasurer of the now defunct Sloan Street Supporters Club. He followed their success and failures via the internet and was up-to-date as possible even though 5,000 miles from Mourne View Park. Harold was immensely proud of Ulster, and when introduced to people in the United States he would emphasis that he was Irish from No. Ireland. Harold Hobbs immigrated to Denver, Colorado in 1957 with his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Hobbs Warren, who died in 1996, and his two brothers, Les and Noel, who still live in the Denver area. Harold worked at the Rocky Mountain News in Denver for 25 years as a linotype operator, assistant composing room foreman and an assistant manager in the Systems Department, specializing in the conversion of hot metal type to photo-composition, and the pagination of the classified section. In 1987 he moved to Los Angeles, California with his wife Deanna, to work for the Los Angeles Times as a Systems Manager. He retired from there in 1996 and moved to Lakewood, Colorado. He is survived by his wife Deanna, his children, David Hobbs and Heather Manzanares, three step-children, Brian Oakley, Kim Oakley and Kellie Vaughan; four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Riley Hobbs, Lynzie Blair and Evan Manzanares, and two step grandchildren, Matthew and Jacob Oakley. A memorial service will be held this Friday May 7th 10:00 am at St. James Presbyterian Church3601 West Belleview Avenue-Littleton, CO 80123.

I worked with Harold at the Rocky Mountain News in the early 1980's. And although I was just a young lad in my twenties at the time, Harold and I became good friends. He taught me so much, professionally, personally and spiritually. He was a good, good man and heaven prospered when Harold went to dwell there.

I knew Harold as a young lad in Lurgan. Lived on the same street. Good friends of our family.

A prayer for my dearly departed father, Harold Hobbs, and my mother, Sharon Hobbs:
Réquiem ætérnam dona eis, Dómine, et lux perpétua lúceat eis.
Requiéscant in pace. Amen.
Words cannot adequately describe how much you both mean to me. While your physical presence here will be missed, please know that your wisdom, teachings, and advice will live on through me and those who knew you best. I am comforted to know that you and mom are joined again after 29 years apart.
Thank you both for giving me the love and discipline I needed at an early age in order to live a values driven life in adulthood. I have certainly had my share of mistakes and have not always lived as you would have expected, but because of you I was able to recover from those mistakes and take steps to become a better man. You gave me the toolbox I needed to be a good husband, father, and friend. Your flame will be carried forward by my family, and you will never be forgotten. Adrienne, Elizabeth, Riley, and I are saddened by your passing, but more than anything we are happy that God gave us a short time with you here.
We ask for the intercession of Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, and all the angels and saints to give us strength during this difficult time. Be with all of our family members as we prepare to give my father to God. Amen
