John Ashline Obituary

Dr. John W. Ashline died at home suddenly and unexpectedly on January 27, 2015. He was born on September 29, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois and raised in Keokuk, Iowa. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Mary Ashline and his children, Steve Ashline, Kathryn Ashline; son in law Dr. Jim Watson; grandchild, Jonathan Watson, Scott Ashline; daughter in law, Noemi Ashline; and granddaughters, Amanda and Isabella Ashline; sisters, Judith Rigg and Sue McCrary; and brother in law Jim McCrary. John was a Captain in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. After retiring from the Army, he went on to pursuing his medical education at the University of Iowa. His ophthalmology residency brought him to Denver. John loved the Denver Broncos and was a season ticket holder since 1971. He was also an avid hiker and climbed 34 of the Colorado 14'ers. Patients and colleagues respected and appreciated his quirky sense of humor. Once he retired, he volunteered weekly with his wife to deliver Meals on Wheels. John was a lifetime animal lover. In lieu of flower arrangements, donations to the Boulder Humane Society would be appreciated. Service will be this Saturday Jan 31 at 3:00 p.m. at Crossroads Church, 10451 Huron Street, Northglenn, CO.

I served with John At Ft Carson...a neat guy

February 3, 2015

John was one of my supervising physicians in ophthalmology residency training. Later he referred patients to see me. I was always so flattered because his respect meant something. He was a kind and patient Doctor and teacher. I know you will all miss him, and so will I. My condolences.

My sincere condolences on the loss of John. I knew John when his sister Judy and I were growing up in Keokuk. I remember him as a kind, sincere young man. His mother was an amazing lady and his dad a respected doctor. The Ashlines were a lovely family. I send my deepest sympathy. Ruth (Sigmund) Gazzola
