After a long battle with cancer, Laura Jeanne ("Lauri") Dannemiller of Denver slipped away on January 16 at the age of 60.

Lauri was born August 17, 1961 in Akron, Ohio to parents Jim and Ursula (nee Keith) Dannemiller. She is survived by five siblings: Lisa of Denver (Peggy Streicher), Jill Feeney of Auburn Hills, Michigan (Patrick), Keith of Mexico City, Mexico (Viétnika Batres), Jim of Houston, Texas (Michelle), and Jerry of Columbus, Ohio (Jill); along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and her beloved miniature sheepadoodle, Shady.

Lauri had a successful nearly 30-year career in Colorado government and parks and recreation, a passionate public servant with strongly held beliefs in the value of access to parks and green spaces as central to the success of city and regional planning and quality of life. Most recently, she was Executive Director of the Apex Park and Recreation District in Arvada. She previously held positions with Denver City Council, Denver Parks and Recreation, as well as prior positions in Poncha Springs, Lakewood, and Englewood. After growing up largely in Findlay, OH and Pittsburgh, PA she earned an undergraduate degree from Bowling Green (OH) State University, and went on to earn a master's degree from Eastern Kentucky University.

A celebration of Lauri's life will take place in the spring at Sloan's Lake in Denver. Details will be shared when confirmed.
