NIELSEN, ODIN THOR
87, passed away March 16, 2009. Born July 26, 1921 to Carl Vilhelm Julius Nielsen and Charlotte Irene Lawhead in Englewood, CO. Odin married Christina Mae Howe in 1940.
Odin founded Nielsen Plastering Company in 1946 and operated the business with his wife and son, Budd, until retiring in 2005. Over the last fifty years Nielsen Plastering has been involved in the construction and renovation of such Colorado landmarks as: The State Capitol, Invesco Field, DIA, Museum of Natural History, Central City Opera House, The Cathedral of the Assumption, Air Force Academy, Broadmoor Hotel, Denver Zoo and virtually every major educational institution in the state.
The Coney Island Hot Dog Stand in Bailey, CO, a Colorado icon, was designed and built by Odin in 1960 and was always his favorite project.
Odin's life is celebrated by his wife, Christina, of 69 years and his four children, Charlotte Nelson (Neil); Peggy Nielsen (deceased); Barbara Nielsen; and Odin (Budd) Nielsen (Val); six grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 20, 2009 at Bullock Mortuary, 1375 E. Hampden, Englewood, CO at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Porter Hospice at Johnson Center, 5020 E. Arapahoe Road, Centennial, CO 80122 or Women In Construction scholarship fund, 1395 So. Cherokee St., Denver, CO 80223.
