COVODE, WILLIAM L.
William L. Covode, 70, longtime Denver resident, died on February 16, 2009, of a heart attack while playing golf at City Park.
Bill grew up in Denver and attended college at CU and graduate school at Northwestern University. Bill was semi-retired from his professional career, which was spent in a variety of industries, including oil/gas, publishing and most recently, the international aviation business.
Bill led a very active personal life. He enjoyed fishing and golfing, was a volunteer and Board member at the St. Francis Center and an involved member of his church. He was a devoted father and grandfather, as well as a friend to many, who will all miss him terribly.
Bill is survived by his sister, Margaret of North Carolina; his former wife, Jane; daughter, Catherine and son, Greg, all of Denver; his son, Russ of Chicago; and his grandchildren, Bennett and Eli, of Denver and Emma, Becca and Christine of Chicago.
Services for Bill will be held at the Church of the Ascension, 600
Gilpin Street, at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, February 21st. Bill requested
donations be made to the capital campaign at Denver's St. Francis Center (www.sfcdenver.org).

Greg and Family,
Words seem so small at times like this. Especially in light of the loss of a father/friend/man that was obviously a bright light in our world. Our thoughts are with you.

It will be difficult finding a more kind hearted and giving freind. Always called me on my birthday just to make sure someone had. I shall always cherish the memory of our 19th hole festivities.

Dear Russ, Greg, and Catherine - I just wanted to say how sorry and shocked I am about your dad. What a tremendous loss! He was such a terrific friend to my dad and I will be forever grateful for that. The last time I saw your dad is when we celebrated our January birthdays together and he was just his cheery old self, always making people laugh with his great comments, and always talking about how proud he was of you all. Jenn reminded me of the time when we were kids and went on one of the classic Brown/Covode raft trips. It was pouring down rain, all of of kids were whining and complaining, and your dad just starts belting out the song "Blue Skies Are Shining on Me!" I can just hear him saying, "Cut the crap kids!" I will miss his big laugh and ability to just say whatever what was on his mind. And spring training just won't be the same. I'd like to think that if he had to choose how he wanted to pass on, that it would have been while playing golf, so maybe God needed a golf buddy. A small consolation no doubt. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time.
With deepest sympathies.

Bronco was a great man with his only flaw being a Bears fan. He will be missed by all he endeavored with!
