JANE SLATER

Jane McKinzie Slater died peacefully at her home in DeRidder, La., on July 18, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Jane was born on Sept. 9, 1939 to Edward and Gladys Marie McKinzie.
She is survived by one sister, Patricia Roy of Nederland, Texas, and her husband, Dexter Slater, two sons, Robert "Van" Springfield, his wife, Kathy, and James Slater, one daughter, Sandra Slater Collins, and husband, Greg, of New Bern, N.C. Seven grandchildren: Vance, Tiffany, Summer, Ashley, Amanda, Cody and Connie. Ten great grandchildren: four nieces; Treasure, Sally, Fran and Tina; three nephews, Jerry, John and Bill. Three god children: Janet, Rebecca and Lawson.
Jane was a resident of Onslow County, N.C., for 32 years, where she was a substitute teacher as well as a Hallmark representative prior to her retirement to DeRidder, La. She was an avid football fan with unfailing devotion to the Dallas Cowboys.
Funeral services were held on July 21, 2015 at Texas Avenue Baptist Church in DeRidder, La., with Cazzy Francis officiating. Burial followed in Old Cypress Cemetery in DeRidder. Visitation was held July 20, 2015 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home in DeRidder, La. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in North Carolina.
