It was my privilege to get to know Al Price when I was serving in our Stake Presidency. We asked Al to help us bootstrap a Stake Institute program for the Edgemont South Stake which we started at the Timpview Seminary Building. Al was marvelous. His teaching style was unique and natural, teaching from the mind and heart, not from prepared notes. I loved attending the class myself. I will always remember his talk when he and Barbara returned from Vladivostok. He said there were 3 kinds of service: Telestial = Someone asks for help and your help. (Al added that if you can't do that you are in outer darkness :o). Terrestrial = You see that someone needs help and you help. Celestial = No one asked, you just sensed by the Spirit that someone needed help, needed your service and you went. Clearly, Al was a Celestial Server.

In the 1960s, I was a member of an unruly youth Sunday School class in St. Paul, Minnesota. Our class went through several teachers until Brother Al Price was called to teach the class. He quickly earned our love and respect by teaching us gospel principles that applied to our teenage lives.

Barbara, Val and I are saddened by the passing of our friend and great Mission President Alvin Price.
We shared so many wondrous experiences together in Russia with you and Al.
Al certainly was one of our Father in Heaven´s great ones.
Thanks to you and Al for being part of our lives

Bishop Alvin Price was bishop of the BYU 1st Ward when my wife Karen and I were young marrieds. He gave us considerable encouragement in our family and professional goals. Later we were colleagues when I became a BYU professor, and Karen and I were once again recipients of his kindness, generosity, and encouragement. I also had the chance to be the faculty advisor to his daughter Cecilee when she participated in BYU's Washington Seminar in 1988. I will always remember Brother Price as a tremendous role model.
