Calvin Stringham Obituary

Frank Calvin Stringham

12/30/1931 – 10/18/2023

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, cherished great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Frank Calvin Stringham returned home to his wife and earthly and heavenly parents who were waiting with open arms. Cal left this world on October 18, 2023, at the age of 91 surrounded in his final days by his loving family.

Cal was born on December 30, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Briant Seth and Eva Olsen Stringham where he grew up on Yale Avenue in Salt Lake and then in Murray, nurtured by the love and support of his family.

In 1947, he attended the International Scouting Jamboree in France. He graduated from Murray High School in 1950 where he served as student body president. He also enjoyed playing on the basketball, tennis, and track teams. He was drafted to the Korean War serving as chaplain and then served in Naples, Italy with the intelligence department. Cal went on to pursue his higher education and graduated from Westminster College.

Cal and Ann were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on March 22, 1957. They lived and raised their family on Atwood Blvd in Murray for most of their lives. They later moved to West Jordan. Cal and Ann were married for 59 years before her passing in 2015.

Cal was a dedicated and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served from 1951-1953 in the Eastern Canada Mission. He humbly served in many callings including elder's quorum president, bishopric counselor, young men's president, Sunday school teacher, and on the stake high council. Cal and Ann fulfilled a service mission at the Conference Center where they enjoyed serving people from all around the world.

In his professional life, Cal was known for his unwavering commitment and exceptional skills no matter where he worked. His dedication and hard work ethic was an inspiration to colleagues and a source of pride for his family. He began work at Murray State Bank then at Deseret Pharmaceuticals, Becton Dickinson Medical, and finished up his career at Ballard Medical. Throughout his life he worked at the family clothing store, Utah Woolen Mills.

Cal leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and dedication. He instilled in his family the values of love kindness, respect, and the importance of faith. In recent years, he welcomed the joy of becoming a great-grandfather. His face would light up with a radiant smile as he held his great-grandchildren in his arms. His legacy will live on through the generations he has touched, as they learn from his example of faith and family devotion. He not only practiced his beliefs but also shared them through his actions and the way he treated others with love and kindness.

He will be dearly missed by his three children, Cal Jr (Lori), Joni (Richard), Mike (Angie), 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren. Sister Susan Romney, Brother Bri Stringham. Sister-in-laws Jean Reynolds and Joan Smoot. Proceeded in death by 2 great-grandsons Parker and Henry, his parents, wife, sister and brother-in-law Beverly and Skeeter Lund, brother and sister-in-law Ray and Marilyn McMillan, brothers-in-law Walt Romney, Gordan Reynolds, Cal Smoot, and sister-in-law Barbara Stringham. We take solace in knowing that his spirit lives on through the values he instilled in each of us, the love he shared, and the faith he held dear.

A memorial service to celebrate Cal's life will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, 12:00 noon at the Garden Cove Chapel 8539 South 2200 West, West Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S State Street Murray, Utah and Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 11:00 – 11:45 a.m. prior to the funeral services. Cal and my dad would team up against Cal junior and me on the tennis court. Talk about two wily foxes. They would look one way and then hit a ball to the open court that completely fooled Cal junior and me. Then Cal senior would say, "Oh, we're sorry, we thought you had that covered." I have such fond memories of the Stringhams and send my love and condolences. Cal senior was a dear friend of mine and the Simpers.

Cal was a very special person and loved by all! I was lucky enough to have him as my friend for almost 50 years. We had so much fun working together and getting together with other friends. He was one of those Christ-like humans full of kindness and goodwill towards everyone he met. My life has been truly blessed because of him and I'm honored to call him friend. While I'll miss him, I'm so happy that he and his beautiful, sweet wife Ann are together again! I was one of those he asked if my face was hurting, and when I said no, he said, "Well, it's killing me!" Much love and comfort to his family!

I have many pleasant memories of visits with Cal on his front porch, We shared an interest in spy thrillers and would pass the latest one back and forth. After reading his Obituary I had a greater appreciation for his connection with Ludlum and Clancy. Besides being a good and decent man, he was exceptionally intelligent. I am certain He left a void in all of your hearts.
