DARLENE PROBST Obituary

Darlene Turnbow Probst Midway, UT Darlene Turnbow Probst 1930-2011- Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away on March 23, 2011 at the Huntsman Cancer Institute surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with Leukemia. Darlene was born in Heber City on July, 9, 1930 to Horrace (Bill) and Dorothy (Byrdie) Barker Turnbow, along with her twin sister De ana. She married Eugene Probst on November 28, 1948. Together for 63 years they raised eight children. Darlene's heart was full of love not only for her family but for anyone she came in contact with. Anyone who met her was immediately drawn to her. She had a special gift of making everyone feel important and loved. Her greatest joy came from serving others. She loved her grandchildren and cared for them up until the time she was too ill. She was a member of the LDS Church where she faithfully served in any capacity that she was asked to. Darlene was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a very talented cook and realized her lifetime dream of opening a restaurant in Midway in 1988. She loved being at the restaurant and cooking for others but most of all making new friends. She loved visiting and getting to know everyone who came through the door of the Burgermeister. She was often teased about giving away more food than she sold. Every day Darlene emulated the teaching 'As I have loved you, love one another'. May we all live as she lived and loved as she loved. Darlene is survived by her husband Gene, eight children: Mike (Joan), Craig (Debbie), Bill (Beverly), Karl (Mary), Bob (Jolyn), Genene (Alan), Sharon (Ty), Kent (Heather). She also leaves behind 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and three on the way; sisters: Mary Parcell, Gay McPhie; brothers: Kent Turnbow (Gail), Mark Turnbow (Jean); brother-in-law: Clive Maxwell, along with many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her twin sister Deana; two daughters: Mary and Diana; her parents, granddaughter, Jennifer; brother-in-laws: Glade Parcell and Joe McPhie. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 29, 2011 - 12 Noon in the Midway LDS Stake Center, 165 North Center Street, Midway. Friends may call Monday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Olpin-Hoopes Funeral Home, 288 N Main, Heber City, or at the Stake Center from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment Midway Cemetery. Gene, When my mother told me of the passing of your wife, I thought about the time I worked for the two of you at the Burgermeister. Employees usually get nervous when the boss comes in to work. But I never got nervous when you or your sweet wife came in. You always treated me so well. Darlene always made it a point to ask me how things were going for me. She took a interest in me. When I made mistakes at work (I made several) She never made me feel bad. She would just help me fix it. She was a problem solver. I can still picture her coming into the Burgermeister. She had a way about her that made me want to be my best self. She was easy to work for and fun to work with. I send my condolences to you and your family. Darlene was amazing. Thank you for letting me work for the two of you and treating me so well. Katherine Smedley Neville (Rigby, Idaho)

Dear Probst Family,
I was sad to learn of the passing of Darlene. I used to baby sit for her at an early age of 9. She was always so kind to me and loving. I remember with fondness all of the times with the boys. I treasure those memories of Darlene and the wonderful Mother and person that she was.
With much sympathy.

I am so sorry for the loss of Darlene. Every time I saw her she would greet me with a smile, a hug and ask me how I was. She was a great lady, the best. I know first hand how hard it is to lose your Mother to such a devasting disease. I know that you will find peace in her loving memory.

All of her family, i.e., siblings, husband, children, et al were a part of our adolescent lives growing up in the Heber Valley. All were well thought of. We trust heaven will smile abundantly upon each family member at this difficult time when doors shut...windows will open, of course.
