Hal McDonald Obituary

Hal Wayne McDonald

1936 - 2022

Ogden, UT - Hal died peacefully in the early morning of June 2nd, 2022 beside his wife of nearly 66 years.

Hal was born July 30,1936 in Roosevelt, Utah to Hyrtle Wayne and Pearl Mayhew McDonald.

He was the first born in his family and tragically lost his mother during childbirth at the young

age of 4. Because of his young age he missed her dearly through his whole life. Nonetheless,

he was resilient and the experience afforded him the opportunity to develop a close bond with

his paternal grandparents.

He was proud to have served his country in the US Air Force during which he was able to travel

throughout the US and Europe. During his service he married his sweetheart, LaRae Monson,

on June 21, 1956 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Subsequently, LaRae and Hal lived in New

Mexico and Roosevelt, where they had their first 2 children. Soon after, they bought their home

in Kearns, Utah where they lived for over 50 years. In that home they welcomed their 3rd and

4th children and raised their family. Hal took great pride in the care and maintenance of his

home.

Hal worked with Deseret News Press for many years, where he had a career he enjoyed

working on printed books and art for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He served in many callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including

Bishop, High Counselor and Ordinance Worker in the Jordan River Temple. Hal and LaRae also

served a mission together at the genealogy library in Salt Lake City. He was eager to serve

people, whether it was assisting with their mechanical needs or making hats and booties for

babies in need. Many people benefited from his kindness during his life.

Hal was playful and a practical joker, always looking for a good prank to pull or a way to make

people laugh. He had a magnetic smile that could brighten a room.

Hal was an aviation aficionado to his core. He was always interested in mechanics and loved

working with his hands and tools. In his retirement he was constantly working on his airplanes.

One of which he completed and actually flew.

Hal's memory inspires kindness, love and humor. He was a loving father, grandfather and made

friends everywhere he went. He and his wife shared a grand love story. He was blessed to have

her at his side til his last breath. His family is proud of his legacy.

Hal is preceded in death by his parents Pearl Mayhew and Hyrtle Wayne McDonald, and sister

Gaye Stucki.

Hal is survived by his wife LaRae McDonald, his siblings Val McDonald, Joy Iorg, Ann

Stevenson and Jackie Thacker. His children Cindy, Kevin (Julie), Tony (Cissy), and Nyle. His

grandchildren Jason, Jenna, Michael, Colton, Mallory, Chase, Danny and Nichole, many nieces

and nephews, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM at the Altamont Stake Center in Altamont, Utah on

Saturday June 11, 2022. A viewing will be hosted from 9:30 until 10:30 prior to the funeral

service. Interment will be at the Bluebell Cemetery in Bluebell Utah directly after the funeral

Hal worked with and was a good friend of my Dad, Clark Talbot. I remember the stories about Hal and their flying adventure in Hal's plane. My Dad and brother really enjoyed that experience! Hal was a good man and a great friend to Dad. Fly high Hal! Condolences to you, LaRae, and the family. Sharon
