Joseph Tippets Obituary

Joseph Lyman Tippets "Gone To The Cabin" On February 5, 2005, the sweetest man who ever lived passed from this mortal existence enclosed in the arms of his loving wife and daughters. He was 87 years old. Dad was born August 9, 1917, in Cowley, Wyoming. He is the third son of Joseph Harrison and Clara Lyman Tippets. He was born in a small log cabin and raised on a farm with his eight siblings. Dad was a gentle natured man who loved life and found great pleasure and enjoyment in living every day as it came. He was called to serve an LDS mission in 1937 to the Texas/Louisiana mission. He was drafted into the Army, February 1941, and fought in battle during World War II. He was 36 hours from Pearl Harbor when it was bombed. On December 14, 1945, he married his sweetheart Harriett Donley in Cowley, Wyoming. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Dad began his career as a diesel mechanic with Caterpillar in 1951 working for Nash Davis Machinery in Billings, Montana. In 1961, he moved his family to Bountiful, Utah where he worked for Wheeler Machinery for the next 23 years. After his retirement, dad and mom spent as much time as possible enjoying their log cabin home above Park City. The cabin was his pride and joy. He built it himself with the help of many cherished friends. Dad was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, hike in the mountains, and ride his four wheeler and snowmobiles every chance he got. He truly enjoyed life to it's fullest. He was genuinely happy and content with his life and possessions. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, his daughters; Jolene (Syd) Peacock of Sandy, Utah and Joan Tippets of Bountiful, Utah; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dr. Jason and Courtney Peacock and their sons, Alex and Seth of Dallas, Texas; Jeremy and Tricia Peacock and their son, Jereth of Grantsville, Utah and Jelaire and Janessa Peacock of Sandy, Utah. He is also survived by one sister Wanda DeMeyer of Gridley, California and many nieces and nephews who adore him like their own father. There will be a casual gathering of family and friends to celebrate dad's life on Thursday evening February 10, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Tippets home. E-mailed memories and condolences can be sent to [email protected]. Dad's desire was to be cremated and taken home to Cowley, Wyoming. Graveside services will be held there over the town's 24th of July celebration where dad will receive full military honors. Our family wishes to express gratitude to our wonderful hospice caregivers, Amy, Megan, Nicole, and Chris who have been like family for the last year. Dad, thank you for your unconditional love and for teaching us how to live by example. Your memory will be forever cherished. We will miss your quiet strength, gentle nature, wisdom and love, more than we can say. It was such a privilege to be with you as you left us to continue your eternal journey; we know how badly you wanted to go. We love you.

I was sorry to hear about Joe. I am Jay Curtis's wife, Calleen. Jay passed away in May 2003. Joe was the first field man Jay went out with as an apprentice mechanic. While working they went to Seattle for 1-2 weeks, I cried and cried. Jay thought an awful lot of Joe. He was a really nice guy. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sincerely,

Calleen Curtis

Dear Harriett and family,

I am saddened to hear of Joe's death. You both were such a wonderfull friend to me. I remember well the days spent with you when I played in the Billings Synphony. Harriett got me into cake decorating and though I never came anywhere close to her expertise, I still think of you.

I love you, Gary Little
