Kenneth Ricks Obituary

Kenneth "M" Ricks, 82, beloved husband, father, friend, and the best grandpa a kid could ever have, returned to his Heavenly Father on June 26, 2002.  Born June 1, 1920 in Rexburg, Idaho, to Martin Ricks and Maude Belle Sanders. Married Myra Dawn Oviatt on March 9, 1951 in Price, Utah. Later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Faithful member of LDS Church, serving as High Priest. Dad loved mom deeply, and was rarely away from her side - sweethearts forever. He spent his life in support of his family, and always showed his love and pride toward them. After family, dad's true love was his service to his country. He saw the world as a sailor aboard the USS Astoria, including a diplomatic voyage to Japan in 1939. He retired in 1978 after 41 years of honorable service in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserves, including active duty in the Pacific in World War II. He was also employed by the Union Pacific Railroad for 44 years. Dad, words can't express how much you will be missed. But your legacy of love and your dedication to God, family, and country will live with us forever. Until we meet again. Survived by wife, West Valley City; daughters Barbara McCullough, West Jordan; Debra (Larry) Drysdale, Weare, NH; Kathleen (Greg) Beecher, West Valley City; son Martin (Sherrie) Ricks, West Valley City; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and adopted Navy son Norm (Marjean) Hansen. Preceded in death by parents; brother Rulon Ricks; sisters Lois Scott and Marguerite Whitworth; daughter Karen Burkman. Funeral services will be held Saturday June 29, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hunter 11th Ward (5065 West Janette Ave, 3956 S). Friends and family may call Friday, June 28, from 6-8 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South or one hour prior to funeral at the Hunter 11th Ward Chapel. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.
