Lawrence Dowd Obituary

Lawrence Timothy Dowd 1924 ~ 2007 Oh! I've Slipped The surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies On laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, And joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split-clouds And done hundred things You have not dreamed of-wheeled And soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air... Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace, Where never lark, nor even eagle flew- And while, with silent, lifting mind I've trod The high un-trespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God. -John Gillespie Magee Larry left the bonds of earth July 21, 2007 surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 25, 1924 in New Haven, CT. to John Francis and Eleanor Synder Dowd. He loved flying, served his country in the armed services during World War II and the Korean Conflict, retired as an Air Traffic Controller. Larry lives on in the memory of his loving wife Diane Pickering Dowd, his children Pamela Dowd-Metzger (Mark), Lawrence T. Dowd II, John C. Dowd; and his grandchildren, Lawrence T. III, Bryan and Andrew Dowd, Paul and Luke Metzger, and Alex Dowd. He is survived by sisters Mary LeManguais, Virginia Fortney, Ann Lawrence and brother Fred Dowd. He was preceded by his parents, brother John and sister Eleanor.
