Provo, UT-Morgan Thomas Reid, 40, passed away peacefully in his home on April 25th, 2013, with his wife by his side and his family close by, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Morgan was born on April 28, 1972, in Provo, UT, to Raymond Douglas and Marilyn Kay Morgan Reid. He was born in between a brother and sister-each a year apart, and with them, enjoyed a happy, delightful childhood. Always together, they loved spending hours playing at the beach near their home in Escondido, CA. Later, two more brothers and a sister joined their family and they lived in the following places: American Fork, UT; Libby, MT; Wright, WY; and finally in Yuba City, CA, where Morgan earned the rank of Eagle Scout and graduated from Yuba City High School. He attended Rick's College prior to serving as a missionary for two years among the Spanish-speaking communities in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Following his missionary service, Morgan instructed Spanish-speaking missionaries at the MTC in Provo, UT.
Morgan received a BFA degree in Illustration from Brigham Young University, and later an MA degree in Graphic Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design. His career spanned creative and leadership positions at Eastman Kodak, Tahitian Noni International, and most recently as Creative Director for Dowdle Folk Art. He was also a successful freelance artist, illustrator, and graphic designer.
On November 18, 1999, Morgan married his best friend and love of his life, Esther Richins in the Provo, Utah Temple. They spent the first years of their marriage in Rochester, New York where Esther had previously served as an LDS missionary. From the time they were married, Morgan and Esther were rarely apart. They loved being with each other and with their children. Morgan was a loving husband and a devoted father to their three young children. They were blessed by his sense of humor, patience, honesty, and tender heart. He spent hours with his children telling stories and jokes, building forts, doing art projects, reading books, laughing and playing with them. He also took every opportunity to lovingly teach them, especially gospel principles. His little family brought him so much joy and they all adored him.
Morgan had a love of writing and good music. He also enjoyed running and participated in numerous 5k and 10k races as well as a half marathon. He loved the arts and could spend hours walking through exhibits in an art museum. He was also a great BYU fan and enjoyed watching their football and basketball games. More than anything, he loved seeing his family develop their talents and grow and learn.
Morgan is survived by his wife, Esther; their three children, Sariah, William, and Joseph; his parents Douglas and Marilyn Reid; his siblings, Jack (Heidi) Reid, Janice (James) Franckum, Alan (Jerusha) Reid, Melinda (Charles) King, Addison (Kaitlyn) Reid; and many nieces and nephews.
We express our heartfelt thanks to all who have so generously loved, prayed for, and helped him and his family during this past eleven months. The many thoughtful and caring acts of service are deeply appreciated. The power of the many prayers offered have been felt.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 2, 2013, 11:30 a.m. at the Edgemont South Stake Center, 350 East 2950 North, Provo, UT. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment at Eastlawn Memorial Hills.
