A very tender, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend passed away at the home of his daughter, Dianna. Jan and the whole family helped to give the care he needed. We express gratitude to Brighton Hospice aides and nurses
Richard Whitney Newton passed away on April 27, 2017.
He was born July 4, 1929 in San Fernando, California, to Stephen B. and Winnie J. Harrington Newton. He married Janet B. Torrey in Moscow, Idaho on January 27, 1951 while attending the University of Idaho. Later the marriage was solemnized in the London England Temple, November 29, 1958. He graduated from the University with a B.S. Degree in Education in 1952, and a M.S. Degree in Education in 1953.
"Dick" was well known for his championship talents in track and field. Both in high school and in college, where he broke many records. He was a beautiful runner. After College he served his country, which he loved, for 21 years. He served in the Air Force as a Hospital Administrator, retiring as a Lt. Col.
After Air Force retirement, he worked for LDS Hospital and then for the Presiding Bishopric office as the head of the Membership Department. He was an honorable member of the LDS Church. He served in many leadership positions, and was an ordained Patriarch. He and Jan served a mission to the France Paris mission from 1994-1996. They also served as ordinance workers in the Bountiful and the Mt. Timpanogos Temples. He was a Branch President in the Provo MTC.
He is survived by his wife, Janet, who dedicated her life to his care. Her devotion has been an example of pure love. He is also survived by his children; Kathy (H.D) Moss of Apache Junction, Arizona, Dianna (Orrin) Andersen of Pleasant Grove, Utah, and son Rick (Kim) Newton of Kaysville, Utah. Also 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son, Richard Kent, his parents, and his brother, Stephen Crosby Newton and a great grandson, James Roman Newton.

Jan, some of my most precious memories of England are of the time I spent with you and Dick starting in Reading and going on from there. I last saw Dick at the MTC in 2000 when we were preparing to go to Singapore. I made some unsuccessful efforts to track you down and then Dick's obituary showed up on SEARCH. I was sorry to see it and wish I could have seen you and Kathy at that time. If you get this would you give me a call 801-467-8344. We live ini Millcreek city and would love to see you. Love to you, John Anderson

My husband and I lived next door to you in Saratoga Springs in 2006 for only a few weeks but your influence continues with us.We were uplifted each time we visited with you both. May the Lord comfort you and your family.
