Robert Mitchell Obituary

Robert Willey Mitchell

1930-2023

Farmington, UT - Robert Willey Mitchell passed away peacefully in his home on August 24, 2023, in Farmington, Utah, at the age of 93.

He was born the youngest of 13 children on March 11, 1930, in Bountiful, Utah, to Edward Emery and Luella Willey Mitchell. Raised on a farm, he learned the value of hard work and integrity. He attended Davis High School and excelled in many sports, including wrestling; track, where he took first place in the 4x4 for the entire Western Region; boxing, where he was a Golden Glove Champion; and football, where, to quote the Salt Lake Tribune, "He was an outstanding quarterback, but was a defensive giant when the going was tough." He went on to play football for Weber State University.

He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In 1950, at age 20, he served a mission to the Netherlands. After completing his mission, he was able to travel throughout Europe. He served in many church callings, including working faithfully in the Bountiful, Utah, temple for 18 years.

He met and married Donna Mary Ringer in the Salt Lake City Temple on January 16, 1953. Shortly after marrying, Bob was drafted into the United States Army and was stationed at Camp Gordon, Georgia, where he and Donna gave birth to their first daughter. After being discharged from the Army, they moved to Kaysville, Utah, where together they raised their four daughters in a happy and loving home. He spent the majority of his career working in Real Estate, for Barlow Realty and later Brough Realty. His last position was at Security Title Company in Farmington, Utah, until his retirement in 1995. Bob and Donna were married for 46 years until Donna's death in July of 1999.

He married Norma Yarbrough July 21, 2003. They loved to travel and had 20 wonderful years together. Norma lovingly cared for him until his passing.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. When loved ones were in his presence, he made each one feel special and never missed an opportunity to express his love. He wanted to hold his family near and we have so many happy memories of time spent with him. He also loved telling jokes. He would often get a certain twinkle in his eye, and a smirk on his face, that let you know he was about to deliver a perfectly timed punch line.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, his parents, 12 siblings and a granddaughter, Michelle Lloyd. He is survived by his loving wife, Norma; his four daughters, including Julie Mitchell (Julie), Laurie Jean Eldredge (Kent), Tammy Lloyd (Keith), and Carolyn Nielson (Tom); with the union of Bob and Norma he gained six more children; Rene Cates (Andy), Jeffrey Yarbrough (Shauna), Beverly Bruderer (Doug); Susan Bauman (Steve), Tim Yarbrough (Kathy), and Tony Yarbrough (Tonya); as well as many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately called him grandpa Bob.

Our family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Atlas Home Care and Hospice. A special thanks to Ashlie and Korie for their tender service.
