1920 ~ 2014
At age 93, Robert Hopkins Wright, our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014.
He was born August 25 1920, in Corrine, Utah to Sterling and Barbara Hopkins Wright. He grew up on a farm in Corrine during the depression where he learned to work hard and be frugal.
He graduated from Box Elder high School and met Ruth Jensen while attending Utah State University. They were married in 1940 In Logan, Utah. They were later sealed in the in the Logan LDS Temple. They moved to Los Angeles, California and finally settled in Inglewood where they raised their family Robert Michael (Patricia), Ruth Anne Walker (Tony) and Patricia Pikus (Lee).
Robert loved horses, playing on the American Legion baseball team, coin collecting, hunting, fishing, sailing with his son, "Mike", and almost all sports. He cared for his family especially the elderly until he too needed assistance.
Robert served as a Radio Communications Chief during WWII. Upon his return, he owned Bob's Texaco in Murray, utah and then returned to California where he worked for North American Aviation. While there, he worked as an engineer working on B1 bombers, the Apollo space shuttle and the Columbia. He retired in 1982 and returned to Utah eventually settling in Orem, Utah. Ruth passed away in 1992 and he met and married Gladys Elaine Snelson Helm. They were married for time in the Seattle, Washington Temple August 14, 1993.
They had many active and enjoyable years together before Elaine passed away in 2011. He also spent many enjoyable times with her children and their families, Maurvene Clark, Blanche Glenn, Donna Custer, Linda Seaton, and Carol Mausser.
Robert was a selfless, kind friend who served others quietly. With his knowledge of mechanics and electronics, he helped many neighbors who needed his assistance.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia, his five step-daughters, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his sister Joann Burnett. He was preceded in death by his children, Robert Michael and Ruth Anne, his brothers Emron and Jack, his sister Virginia and his parents.
A viewing will be held Tuesday evening January 21 at Sundberg-Olpin Funeral home located at 495 South State Street in Orem, Utah from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday January 22 at 11:00am in the Logan City Cemetery.
