Shirley Day Obituary

Shirley Ann Snell Day

1937 ~ 2026

West Valley City, UT-Our sweet grandma passed away on February 5, 2026, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born on June 1, 1937, at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City to Mark and Bessie Snell.

She was the proud mother of four children: Kim, Jody, Carrie, and Bill. In 1972, she married the love of her life, Leon Day, and together they began a beautiful adventure. They shared a love of travel, skiing, and spending time outdoors. Their greatest joy was their cabin, which they built together with their own hands-a place filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Shirley was a true matriarch who deeply valued family and tradition. She had a remarkable way of making everyone she knew feel loved and welcomed. She adored animals, and it was common to find her sitting on the front porch birdwatching. She worked as a florist for 30 years and was an avid gardener, finding peace and joy in nurturing beauty around her.

Her greatest joy in life was being a grandma. She often said her grandchildren were her reward for having children. She played an important role in raising each of them, and they are all better people because of her love, guidance, and example.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Bessie Snell; her beloved husband, Leon Day; and her children, Kim, Jody, Carrie, and Bill.

She is survived by her sister, Barbara Woodward; her grandchildren, Megan, Camille, Brandon, Lance, and Brett; her stepchildren, Craig, Laura, Cory, and Shelly; as well as many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Humane Society of Utah in her honor.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Day (Shirley) for years was my Mothers“ best friend and they visited often since they lived in the same neighborhood for many years. She was the sweetest lady I knew growing up in Hunter (now WVC). I attend all of my jr. high and high school days with all the girls but was a bit older than Bill. She should not have had to bury all of her kids before her passing. On behave of my late parents (Colleen and Hayden Larsen) and my family, I send my deepest condolences and love and prayers to her grandkids and their families.
