Stephen Abbott Obituary

Stephen Craven Abbott

1945 ~ 2025

Salt Lake City, Utah-Stephen C. Abbott, born on September 13, 1945, to Franklyn and Alice Craven Abbott, passed away on January 31, 2025. In his youth, Steve enjoyed playing baseball and was named the Little League Home Run King with 15 home runs in 1957. He attended West High School and developed his love for music, singing, and dancing earned him a regular spot on the local TV show, Utah Bandstand. In 1959, he was awarded the Most Promising Dancer of the Year on the show. He cherished the memories and friendships he made during that time, despite his time on the show being cut short by an accidental gunshot injury at age 15. However, this tragic event led him to meet his sweetheart, Bobbie, in his later teens.

Steve married Barbara Ann Brackett on February 27, 1965, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together, they had two beautiful children, Michelle "Ikie" and Mark Abbott. Steve had a strong work ethic and worked multiple jobs to provide for his family. He worked at Security Title, later First American Title, for 41 years and Eckardt and Company for 45 years. Anything Steve did, he did with pride and wholehearted dedication.

Steve enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether sitting on the patio, attending barbeques or camping with his family at Cherry Hills and other nearby favorite spots. He was a big Utah Utes football fan and loved attending games and watching them on TV. He loved playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. He was always there for his family, especially during special occasions. Steve shared his love for music by singing to anyone who would listen. He also enjoyed dancing with his wife at social gatherings, record hops that he would DJ or in their living room. Steve will always be remembered for his sense of humor and infectious laugh, always having a joke or story to tell. We will always remember your smile and your laugh!

Steve is survived by his grandchildren, Anthony Martinez (Connie), Nicole Martinez, Meranda Martinez, Patrick Martinez (Amy), Hannah Upwall (Tim); son, Robert Upwall; brother, Frank Lynn Abbott (Carolyn); and great-grandchildren, Andrea, Brija, Arya, Aiden, Kalen, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Brackett Abbott; daughter, Michelle "Ikie" Martinez; son, Mark Abbott; father, Frank Abbott; mother, Alice Craven Abbott Wilkinson; son-in-law, Victor Martinez; brothers, Jesse J.C. Salisbury and Brent Abbott; and sister, Nadine Cooper.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Monument Healthcare Bountiful Care Center for all the love and care they showed Steve in his final years.

Services will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 12:00 noon at the Edison LDS Ward Chapel, 1401 W. 700 S. Family and friends may call on Sunday, February 9, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Edison Ward Chapel. Interment will be at Redwood Memorial Estates.

I am so sad to see this. I knew Steve from First American Title and will always cherish the many time he would come to my office to tell me a story or a joke. He was an amazing man.

I am Bobbie's sister, Karen. I remember Steve and Bobbie's wedding. She was so beautiful and they were so happy. Steve was wonderful to Bobbie, so patient, kind and loving.
They loved ball games, their vacations and family gatherings.
They would come to Dad and Renaun's house and Steve and dad would swap jokes and funny stories and just laugh and laugh.
He did love to sing, he would say, "remember this one"...........
He loved the Carpenter's songs. One day over to their house he sang "Close To You" with little Ikey. I will always think of him when I hear that song.
Steve was an "upper" kind of guy. It made you feel good just to be around him.
I like to think he is singing and dancing with his family again, happy.
Some wonderful memories of such a good man.
I pray for peace and love (and maybe some dancing and singing) to abide with his family and friends.
Much love to all. Karen Hoopes

Steve is my first cousin and for many years we shared memories and music on our Grandpa Craven's birthday on or near April 14. He was one who always added an extra level of "life" to our annual 'Cousins Party'. We are a very small group now and will miss being together. I certainly send my condolences and family love to the family.

I've known Steve for 40 years and he was truly one in a million. He knew how to turn difficulties into positivity. The obituary mentions his gunshot wound, but how many people turn such tragedy into positivity and bonding opportunities? You have never truly bonded with someone until they have invited you to touch the soft spot on their head (where there should have been skull). Steve always had a smile on his face and a compliment on his tongue.

Steve loved. He loved and was proud of his family - loved his Captain - loved all who cared about him. And I know all at Security Title/First American cared about him.

Steve was the kind of person who made life's difficulties bearable. I changed jobs and moved so it has probably been 55 years since I last saw him but I still remember his beautiful smile, corny jokes, and inexhaustible patience. I grew up listening to popular music through the 1950's and 1960's and I think he is the only person I know who recognized the words to more songs than I did.
