Belle was my neighbor and my friend in Arlington, Virginia. I never saw Belle without a smile on her face. Her zest for life, her generosity, her loyalty and her deep commitment to her beliefs are some of the many memories I have and will always have of her.

The world has lost a true valiant spirit. She will be missed by many of us.

To have known Belle is to have loved her and still love her. She danced through this life to the beat of her own drum. She leaves a discernible void and will be deeply missed. My heartfelt condolences go to her family.

I can't find the words to say how much you meant and mean to me. (You were the one who was so good with words). Thank you for the adventures we shared, for Ray, for being my friend, my mentor, my art patron, for making my life so much richer for being part of it.

O your laugh of laughs, your full-bodied hugs, the ingenious art with which you surrounded your home and body. I have watered the geraniums for the final time. Though both will beautify the earth, your fragrances are woven into our memory, your love into our heart.
Will always love you, dearest friend Belle.

I often tell my friends that I was raised by a "village" before it became trendy. Belle was one of my many "moms" that loved me, pushed me and rejoiced with me. I cherished her insight and support through the years.

I don't know how to say goodbye to such a soul as Belle, or live without her warmth of heart and knowing eyes, united in her unwavering love, unfailing support, unselfish admiration, all freely spent on those she called her friends. The world is far less without her.
