Vint Gary Shurtliff

1963 - 2021

Vint Gary Shurtliff went home to the embrace of his Heavenly Father Saturday, October 23, 2021 at the age of 58 due to complications from the Covid-19 Virus.

Vint was born to Gary and Lana Shurtliff February 6, 1963 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Shortly after his first sister joined their family they moved to Southern California where the family gained his next sister and the long awaited brother he had always hoped for. His formative years were in Riverside, California. While he was known and remembered as being part of many sports such as baseball, wrestling and his beloved football, he learned a love for theater. His summers were spent either in the family pool, at the beach or with family in Idaho surrounded by cousins who loved him. He would always look to his youth as a cherished memory and one of his best times of life surrounded by love, good TV and music!

After graduating High School at Riverside Poly High, Vint served an 18 month mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Atlanta, Georgia Mission. After coming home he met and married Monique LaDue and together they had 4 boys who were his world. Travis, Aaron, Adam and Robbie were his proudest accomplishments. As a young father he attended and graduated from UC San Bernardino. While teaching Jr. High in Riverside, Vint found he had a special talent for those who had special needs and that skill would carry over later in his career. He was also able at this time to be involved in a local theater company directing many plays. He loved when he could involve his own family in the theater with him. This lead to shared interests with his kids that continues today. His family relocated to Salt Lake City in 2005 where Vint found work as an employment counselor for the special needs community.

Vint could always be found supporting his boys and his family members either on a sports field coaching or cheering them on. He learned to love lacrosse as much as football because it was a passion for several of his boys. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family. His boys, siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins were really all Vint needed to be happy. He loved a good movie, a fun game of cards, laughing at a comedy club, watching college sports and UFC, and going to the theater but he really was an old soul at heart. He loved a quiet talk, a long drive or when possible sitting on the deck at our beloved family cabin in Idaho just watching the lake. He was a big burly guy, who aced sarcasm but had the huge sentimental heart of a teddy bear.

In addition to being a dedicated father, son, brother and uncle, his time was also spent in service at his church and family, being a main caregiver to his mother the last few years. His unwavering faith and testimony in God and the mighty power of the atonement were always an example to us and he was ready to share his insights whenever he could. He never stopped trying to improve his relationship with his Savior.

Vint joins his hero and father, Gary Shurtliff in Heaven as well as all his beloved Grandparents who he always thought he was their favorite being first grandson on both sides. He is survived by children Travis (McKenzie) Shurtliff, Aaron Shurtliff, Adam (McCall) Shurtliff and Robbie Shurtliff. His pride and joy grandchildren Preszley (Travis), Ryker (Travis), Cooper (Adam) and Becket (Adam) Shurtliff, his mother Lana, siblings Lynlee, Wendy and Ryan and many nieces and nephews, cousins young and old who will all miss him dearly but know he'll be close by and we'll see him again soon. Families are forever.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 29th, 2021 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Chapel at 270 North 300 East, Centerville, UT., where the family will have a visitation for friends and family prior to the funeral from 1:00 - 1:45 p.m.
