Alvin "Dean" Winchel, 86, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016 at Bickford Cottage Assisted Living in Urbandale.

Dean was born October 17, 1930 in Rippey, Iowa to Harry and Emeline Winchell. He retired from Tension Envelope after 41 years of service. Dean was a member of the Norwalk Masonic Lodge and Norwalk United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved spending time and taking care of his family.

Dean is survived by his wife, Patricia Winchell; children, Rex (Lauri) Winchell, Sheri Alice (John McMath) Winchell and Gregory Dean (Sandy) Winchell; grandchildren, Jamie Winchell, Greg Winchell, Haley Ann (Joe) Simpson, Scott Alan (Kimberly) Winchell, Alex Redding, Kurt Redding and Carly Rae Winchell; great-grandchildren, Madison Ballard, Gavin Dean Wheeler and Gabriel Caprice Halverson; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters and their spouses, Patricia Alice and Loye McClanahan and Wanda and Perry Pattison.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 12 to 2 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A private family burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association in loving memory of Dean.
