Buddy Lee Breckenridge

Liberty, MO

Mr. Buddy Lee Breckenridge, 77, a resident of Liberty, MO, died Wednesday afternoon June 8, 2011 at Liberty Hospital, Liberty, MO.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 11, 2011, at 11a.m. at the First Christian Church, Trenton, MO, with Lonny Veach officiating. Burial will be in Hatton Chapel Cemetery northwest of Trenton, MO. Memorials to: Mary Ruth Veach Scholarship Fund in care of the NCMC Foundation. They may be left at Slater Funeral Home. Family visitation will be held at the First Christian Church on Saturday June 11, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 11a.m.

Mr. Buddy Lee Breckenridge was born September 19, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Walter (Red) and June Combs Breckenridge. As a youth Buddy was a trick rider and roper traveling throughout the Midwest performing alongside his parents and siblings, He became a noted saddle bronc rider as he grew up. He held memberships in the Rodeo cowboys Association and the United Rodeo Cowboy Association (URA). He won the saddle bronc championships in the URA in the years of 1966 and 1969. He held the office of Saddle Bronc Director in the URA in 1968.

He worked as a saddlemaker for the Veach Saddlery in Trenton, moving into similar position for Trails End Saddlery in Des Moines, Iowa, where Bud and Linda and sons made their homes. On June 2, 1957 he was married to Linda Ruth Veach in Trenton, MO. She preceded her death on November 8, 1994.

His survivors include four sons, Billie Breckenridge and wife, Jayne of Mingo, Iowa, Walter Breckenridge of Des Moines, Iowa, Clinton Breckenridge of Altoona, Iowa and Winston Breckenridge of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Chance Breckenridge, Amanda Breckenridge, Lacy Breckenridge, Hank Breckenridge, Dalton Breckenridge, Bradley Breckenridge, Dillion Breckenridge, Spencer Breckenridge; one great-grandchild, Miranda Breckenridge; three sisters, Doris Badger of California, Helen Renner and husband, Bob of Alabama and Peggy Osborn and husband, Ozzie of Maryland; one brother, Doug Gambrill and wife, Shelly of Iowa; sister-in-law, Lana Beverlin and husband, Larry of Trenton, MO; and brother-in-law, Larry Veach and wife, Carolyn of Trenton, MO.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter (Red) Breckenridge; his mother, June Breckenridge; one brother, Clyde Breckenridge; and one granddaughter, Chelsey Breckenridge.
