Charles Foulke Obituary

Dr. Charles Foulke

Pleasant Hill

Dr. Charles R. Foulke (Bob), 86, of Pleasant Hill passed away Friday evening, October 6, 2017 at The Shores of Pleasant Hill. Bob spent the day surrounded by family.

Bob was born on December 19, 1930 in Carlisle, IA. An active outdoorsman and athlete, Bob played on Carlisle High School's basketball and baseball teams. He served as Senior Class President, graduating in 1948. Bob attended the University of Iowa as an undergrad and a dental student receiving his DDS in 1954. Upon graduation Bob enlisted in the US Navy, serving as a dentist stationed in Japan.

Upon his return home, Dr. Foulke established a successful dental practice in Urbandale for 35 years until his retirement in 1992. He was a passionate Hawkeye fan and supporter of the University of Iowa and Hawkeye athletics.

Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman, making more than 100 trips to Canada and Alaska to hunt Caribou and Sheep or fish for Walleyes and Northern with his wife (Terri), son (Steve), or other area fishermen. Bob was well-liked by all for his quick smile and social nature and was a popular guide for many who sought to fish in "the Great White North". He took great pride in passing this passion along to his son, Steve, and grandson, Chris.

Bob and his wife, Terri, resided in Pleasant Hill during Iowa summers and spent their winters on Siesta Key, FL. Their favorite times were spent on Steve's farm outside Hartford, affectionately named "South Foulke".

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Faye Foulke, and his wife of more than 50 years, Theresa Foulke.

He is survived by his older brother Gene (Wanda) Foulke of Salt Lake City; his son, Steve (Cynthia) Foulke of Hartford, his granddaughter, Stephanie (Brandon) VanVleet, of Indianola, his grandson, Christopher, and granddaughter, Alayna, of Hartford and, his cousin, Judy Black, of Urbandale. Bob has two great grandchildren, Mason and Presley VanVleet.

Memorial funeral services celebrating his life will be held Friday, October 13 at 10 AM at the Hartford Community Presbyterian Church in Hartford, IA. A brief graveside service in the Palmyra Cemetary will be followed by lunch and a reception in the lower level of the church. Online condolences may be made at www.petersonfuneralservice.com
