Darwin Williams Obituary

Darwin Williams

Boone

Darwin Williams passed away on February 25, 2014, after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 28 at Adams Funeral Home, 502 Douglas Ave., Ames. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, also at Adams. Interment will be in the Fjeldberg Lutheran Cemetery in Huxley. A luncheon will follow.

Darwin Lee Williams was born September 8, 1957 to Herschel and Dolores (Primmer) Williams in Ames. Darwin was a mechanic at the Ames shop of the Iowa DOT for over 30 years, until he was disabled in 2010. Darwin was the kind of man who would help a stranger stranded on the roadside, and it gave him great pleasure to work on the vehicles of his friends and family. Darwin loved to travel and he and wife, Sue, were able to have several memorable trips around Iowa and the country before his illness.

Most of all, Darwin loved his family. He would do anything for his children and grandchildren. Some of his happiest memories were holiday family gatherings and the trips to the pumpkin patch with his grandkids.

Darwin will be greatly missed by his wife, Susan Haws-Williams, of Boone; his sons, Tom (Anita) Williams and John (Alicia) Williams, all of Nevada; his daughters, Jill Petersen, of Indianola and Shelley Gibbons, of Zearing; his mother, Dolores Williams, of Huxley; his brothers, Brian Williams, of Huxley, Dale (Pat) Williams, of Huxley and Donnie (Amber) Williams, of Johnston; twelve grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; six step-children; eight step-grandchildren; one step great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
