Rev. David T. Fenelon, 85, died November 17, 2016 at Rosewood Estate in Waterloo, Iowa. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Queen of Peace Church in Waterloo at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Waterloo. There will be a visitation from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls. Father Fenelon attended school at St. Mary's in Waterloo and seminary in Elkhorn, Nebraska, Conception Missouri, Washington DC and Collegeville, Minnesota. His vocation followed his 13 years in engineering at John Deere when he entered the Benedictine Community at Marvin South Dakota. He was ordained May 29, 1970 in St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After service with the Benedictines in Pierre, South Dakota, Devil's Lake North Dakota and Dillon, Montana he joined the Diocese of Des Moines in 1976.

He was assigned in Council Bluffs, Weston and then moved to Panama, Iowa. He was pastor there until he moved as pastor of the Drake Newman Community in Des Moines in 1984. In 1991 he was assigned as pastor of Bayard and Jamaica, Iowa and then in 1996 to retirement in Waterloo where he helped in several parishes including Blessed Sacrament and Queen of Peace. He made his final home in Rosewood Estate.

Father Fenelon was a lifelong learner. He obtained degrees in Philosophy, Education, Theology, Cultural Anthropology and even Special Education. He loved to talk and was very interested in helping the poor and also those who had spiritual needs. He was a friend to all of those around him.

He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, member of the Lions Club, National Honor Society, NRTA of AARP and a member of Hospice of Cedar Valley.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Paul Fenelon; and two sisters, Kathleen Smith and Ruth Steimel. He is survived by nieces and nephews.

Donations or memorials may be sent to Cedar Valley Hospice or the Catholic Church Extension Society of the USA.
