Dave was born in Carlisle, Iowa where he grew up and had very fond memories of his childhood and adolescence. Dave married Julie Jane Henderson of Ankeny, Iowa on October 20, 1962. Dave was active in the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the El Katif Shrine where he was treasurer for several years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Julie in 2015. He was also preceded by his parents Dr. and Mrs. Frederick D. Wertman. He is survived by two sisters Jan Niday of Johnstown, IA and Carol Smith of Minneapolis, MN; his son Douglas (Tracy) Wertman of Bothell, WA; daughter Amy (Mike) Sprecher of Nine Mile Falls, WA; grandchildren Megan Wertman, Ryan Sprecher, Christopher Sprecher and Jordan Wertman. His family would like everyone to know what a kind and gentle person he was, he will be terribly missed. Memorial Service 11AM Friday, August 12, 2016 at Heritage Funeral Chapel, 508 N. Government Way Spokane, WA 99224. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children, 911 West 5th Ave. Spokane, WA 99204.

David and I grow up together in Carlisle. Many fond memories. He, Alan Petrie (deceased) and I went from kindergarten to graduation together. My condolences to his family.
