Diane Marie Norling Kroll passed away peacefully at Taylor House Sunday, October 4, 2009 in Des Moines, Iowa. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 9, 2009 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, of which Diane was a member. Burial will be 1 p.m., Saturday, October 10th at Brooklyn Cemetery in Beresford, South Dakota.
Diane was born to Esther and Archie Norling on August 2, 1959 in Vermillion, SD. Her parents resided in Beresford, SD. Diane and her family moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1967 where she attended South Sioux Elementary School followed by Jefferson Elementary School and Edison Junior High School. She graduated from Washington Sr. High School in Sioux Falls in 1977. She graduated from South East Area Vocational-Technical School for Operating Room Technicians in Sioux Falls in 1978. Diane married James Allen Kroll on June 6, 1981 in Sioux Falls. Diane has been employed with Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa since 1991.
Diane is preceded in death by her parents Archie and Esther Norling, and her brother James Shum.
Diane is survived by her husband, James of Des Moines; by her son, Eldon Kroll (Jessica) of Des Moines; step-daughter, Heidi Kroll of MN; and step-daughter, Nicole Duwenhoegger (Erik) of MN; one grandchild, Michael Allen Kroll of Des Moines; and two half sisters, Barb Uhe (James) of Sioux Falls and Mary Wiley (Wayne) of NE.
Diane enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting for her family. She also could be found playing her folk guitar from time to time. She also had an incredible ability for baking exquisite desserts such as Norwegian Krum Ka Ka during the Holidays.
Family and friends will greatly miss Diane's loving spirit filled with laughter, compassion, and incredible understanding of others needs. Diane Marie Norling Kroll truly touched literally hundreds of lives in her one life time. She will continue to touch our hearts and souls in our thoughts and prayers. Diane's spirit did not die & never will. She shall always be with us!
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 8 at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m.
