Edith Laura Bailey, 87, of Mitchellville, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away November 21, 2009 at Bickford Cottage in Urbandale, Iowa. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Mitchellville Christian Church.
The daughter of Harold and Charlotte (Brown) Wilson, Edith was born on March 26, 1922 in Adelphi, IA. She attended high school in Prairie City, IA, graduating in 1939. She was married to Oscar Wayne Bailey on January 19, 1946 in Newton, IA.
Mrs. Bailey was a beautician prior to her marriage to Oscar and in the first few years of their marriage. She was a homemaker and farmed side by side with Oscar. Edith enjoyed reading, sewing, dancing, and spending time with her family whom she loved dearly. She was a member of the Mitchellville Christian Church.
Survivors are her children, Sharon Payne (Craig) of Mitchellville, and Wayne Bailey (Gillian) of Tempe, Arizona; her grandchildren, Brandt Payne of Tempe, AZ, Laura Cannon (Cormac) of Okemos, MI, Alison and Caroline Bailey of Tempe, AZ; and her brother, Clarence Wilson of Britt, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Oscar on March 27, 2008; her parents; and a brother, Charles "LeRoy" Wilson on October 28, 2005.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 23 at Hamilton's Mitchellville Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Mitchellville Library in loving memory of Mrs. Bailey.
