Erik R. Johansen

Des Moines - Erik Raymond Johansen, 33, Des Moines, IA, died November 30th, 2018 in Des Moines. The visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 5th, 2018 from 5:00PM - 8:00PM at Dunn's Chapel, 2121 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 6th, 2018 at 12:00PM at the same location with military honors held at the conclusion. Burial will follow the same day at 2:00PM at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, IA.

Erik was born November 8th, 1985 in Illinois, and moved to Des Moines, IA in his adolescence. He attended Valley High School and joined the U.S. Air Force upon graduation. Erik graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Engineering from Iowa State University. While in college Erik wrestled for University and was active in Honor Societies and many other clubs. After graduation Erik worked for the 132d Wing, Iowa Air National Guard, Communications Flight as a dual status technician in network administrator and as an augmentee for the base defense team. Erik has received many honors and awards in his time in the military, most recently the very prestigious gold rating for the German Proficiency Badge. Erik loved his military family and being in the United States Air Force. In his personal life, Erik enjoyed spending time outdoors with his children, running long distance, working on home projects, reading, and anything technology related.

Erik leaves behind his wife, Alyssa; children, Noah, Evelynn and Abrahm; parents, Lorelei (John) Cauffman, Rachel Johansen; sister, Heidi (Justin) Bogers; mother and father-in-law, Kris and Lisa Alesch; brother-in-laws, James (Katelynn) Alesch, Josh (Paige) Alesch, Kris (Susie) Alesch, nieces and nephews, numerous other family members and friends, especially his military family including the Comm Flight Crew.

In lieu of flowers an Educational Memorial Fund has been established for Noah, Evelynn, and Abrahm. Direct these to Alyssa Johansen, 3524 Evergreen Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50320.

Erik was such a good influence on me and my sister. I couldn't imagine life without him, even though I now have to live that way. I loved him so much and will miss him dearly.

I just learned of Erik's passing last night and I want to pass my condolences on to his family. I had the fortune of being Erik's wrestling coach at Valley. He was an extremely hard worker, strong minded and a great teammate and person. I know he will be greatly missed. I am so sorry for your loss.
