I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. I had the pleasure of working with John as a fellow member of the Chemistry Department at Grand View for 10 years. I remember he made a point of visiting my office and introducing himself the first day I was on campus, which I greatly appreciated. He was always supportive, and a good person to talk to about a range of topics (including the University of Minnesota where we both studied). My uncle Tom, who was also one of his colleagues at Grand View, had a great deal of respect for John. Tom always referred to him as "one of the good guys". I will remember John as a kind and thoughtful man who cared about his students, his colleagues and the importance of and value of education.
