JOHN LIGOURI Obituary

John J. Ligouri passed away peacefully on October 14, 2010. He was born on December 5, 1923, the ninth of ten children born to Gennaro and Mary Ligouri, in Des Moines, Iowa.
John attended St. Anthony's Catholic School through the eighth grade and graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in 1942. He enlisted in the Army in 1942, and served four years. John served in the Aletian Islands, the South Pacific, and was part of the landing force in Japan at the end of World War II.
John married Bonnie Shank on November 27, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa, and to this union five children were born. He owned and operated the Club 2000 in Des Moines, Iowa for several years. John also owned and operated the Skyline Casino and Ligouri's Bar and Casino in Henderson, Nevada for over 30 years before retiring in 1998. After retiring, John and Bonnie moved to Mesquite, Nevada, where they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2009.
John is survived by his wife, Bonnie and their five children, Gennaro Ligouri of Des Moines, Iowa, Louie Ligouri of Auburn, Nebraska, Craig Ligouri of Henderson, Nevada, Lauren Ligouri of Phoenix, Arizona, and Lisa Ligouri of Raleigh, North Carolina; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother, Julia Ligouri and Anne Wilson, and Tony Ligouri, all of Des Moines, Iowa.
John will be deeply missed as a brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather by his devoted family.
