Clive
Joseph David Borchardt, age 38, passed away suddenly on February 23, 2017. Joe was an Air Force veteran and started his military career as a loadmaster. He later completed pilot training to become a pilot on a C-130 cargo plane. He bravely served our country for 12 years and was deployed to many countries including Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan following 9/11/01.
Joe dearly loved his son, John (age 10) and cherished the time they spent together. Joe also loved the outdoors and adventure. Hiking, camping, fishing, and scuba diving were just a few of his hobbies. He was very involved with River of Life Church and was an active participant in Celebrate Recovery at Lutheran Church of Hope. Joe spent many hours volunteering and helping those who were less fortunate than himself and had recently gone on a mission trip.
He is survived by his son, John Borchardt; parents, W. David Borchardt and Mary Wells Borchardt; sisters, Amy (John) Borchardt Vieth and Emily (Chad) Borchardt Ermis; 5 nieces and a nephew; and a large loving extended family. Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. A reception will follow.
Memorials may be directed to the family for his son's education or to Johnston River of Life Church. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff and personnel at the VA Medical Center for the care they provided to Joseph.
Joe was a kind, smart, dedicated son, brother and father who made us all proud. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

While you are no longer with us in body, you are in spirit brother Joe. We thank you, your son and family for your precious life and selfless sacrifice to our country. We pray for comfort and peace which surpasses understanding for your son and family. We grew to know Joe as Prayer Warrior in our Eagle Prayer Ministry which we did on Friday nights. We were especially blessed each time he joined us. Although we no longer have you with us we look forward to seeing you in heaven. Rest In Peace.

Joe was one of the most wonderful people you could ever meet.My first memory of Joe was in 7th grade football practice. He had long curly frizzy hair that seem to follow his every move. It bounced around the room just like his beautiful personality!!! He said something about a band we had both been listening to and that was it. For the next ten years I considered him the best of friends to have. 20 years later I still think of his funny voices and faces. What a smart, hilarious, charismatic individual!!! It weighs so deeply on me that I did not talk to him for the last part of his life. But I feel so blessed to have such an amazing person take the time to be my friend. I love ya Joe!!! Peace, my heart, let the time for the parting be sweet.Let it not be a death but completeness.Let love melt into memory and pain into songs.Let the flight through the sky end in the folding of the wings over the nest.Let the last touch of your hands be gentle like the flower of the night.Stand still, O Beautiful End, for a moment, and say your last words in silence.I bow to you and hold up my lamp to light you on your way.
