LaVerne Samuelson, 84, died March 17, 2012, at the Boone County Hospital. A Funeral Mass is Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Boone. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone.

LaVerne was born in Boone on February 16, 1928, the son of Glen and Anna (Wickstrom) Samuelson. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1945 and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On August 28, 1954, he married Theresa Duffey at Lone Tree, Iowa. LaVerne farmed all his life east of Boone in the Jordan area. He was a member of the 40 and 8 and lifetime member of the Elks and American Legion. LaVerne enjoyed bowling, golf, playing cards, gardening, dining out, and was an avid Cyclone fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Kay Tones; two brothers, Walter and Robert, and four sisters, Margie, Dorothy, Alice, and Nadine. LaVerne is survived by his wife, Theresa of Boone; a daughter, Lori Robertson of Des Moines; son-in-law, Chris (Linda) Tones of Iowa City; a sister-in-law, Shirley Samuelson of Boone; four grandchildren, Melissa (Mike) Vogel and Wesley Robertson, both of Des Moines, Nick Tones of Ft. Collins, CO, and Caitlin Tones of Davenport; and twin great-grandchildren, Logan and Caroline Vogel of Des Moines.

Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone on Wednesday from 1 to 8 p.m. where a Vigil Service will be at 7 p.m. and the family will be present after 5. Visitation continues Thursday at the funeral chapel from 8 until 10 a.m.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
