Michael Ogden Obituary

Michael Edward Ogden, 54, of Des Moines passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016 following a tragic, work-related accident. Mike was born on September 4, 1961 in Des Moines to Becky (Van Law) and Robert Ogden.

Mike graduated from Lincoln High School in 1979. He was a dedicated and proud member of the Swing Choir, the Tennis Team and the Bowling Team during his time at Lincoln. After high school, he loyally served his country in the U.S. Army as an M.P. and served much of his time in Germany. Mike enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, riding his beloved Harley, "Babs", and rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He looked forward to Tuesday nights and bowling with his buddies. Most of all Mike treasured and loved time with his girls, grandkids and his extended family.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Amber (Aaron) Anderson, Brandy (Aaron Hahn) Ogden and Jordan Ogden; grandchildren (with their Papa's nicknames for them), Camarin "Macki", Tobias "Scooter" and Iain "Awesome"; mother, Rebecca (Jerry) Hein; siblings, Lisa Ogden, Wendy Berg, Mark (Angie) Ogden, Kristen (Lance) Rhodes and Tanya Ogden; step-mother, Donna Ogden; mother of his girls, April Ogden; and many nieces, nephews, other loving family and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; grandparents, Ward F. & Thelma (Moran) Ogden, Donald Van Law and Ethel (Clemons) Vondran; great-grandmothers, Birdie Higgins and Mary Ellen Damerval; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the funeral home. He will be escorted by the The Patriot Guard Riders of Iowa to Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA. to arrive at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, where he will be laid to rest.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mike's family.

I grew up living across the street from the Ogdens. Mike was so kind to us kids, I was a few years younger. Thanks Mike for all the great times. Rest easy my friend.

Mike,

From the moment anyone meet you, they could see the strength of your character. I always believed your character was crafted to be the armor of your greatest treasure, your girl's. Though you left this world far to early, your armor shall remain to guide and protect them through all of their days. i don't know if you realized it, but you shared your armor with more lives than you could possibly imagine. Though we parted ways, the friendship and guidance you once gave me shall not be forgotten.

You will be missed.
