Gregory Allen Brown

August 13, 1960 – August 4, 2025

Gregory Allen Brown, of Des Moines, IA, passed away on August 4, 2025, at the Des Moines Veterans Memorial Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 64 years old.

Born on August 13, 1960, in Des Moines, Greg will be remembered for his strong spirit, competitive drive, and enormous heart. A proud graduate of Lincoln High School, Greg was an accomplished athlete who made his mark on the swim team and even helped set a world record in water polo.

Greg served his country honorably in the United States Navy, where he earned the distinguished Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and achieved the Shellback title-a mark of his grit, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to his fellow sailors. Following his military service, Greg continued to work with purpose and pride. He became a certified NCCO and CDL holder, operating cranes as a member of the local union. His career reflected his work ethic and drive to provide for his loved ones.

Greg faced numerous health battles over the years, but he fought with unmatched strength and determination. His greatest source of courage was his family, whom he loved fiercely. His love was tough, loyal, and deeply rooted – just like him.

Greg is survived by his loving mother, Sandra; his children Shane (Myla), Kayt (Cole), and their mother Tammy; Britney (Alex) and her mother Tammy; Chad (Kayla) and his mother Tami; his cherished grandchildren Koreylyn, Brayden, Hannah, Natalie, and a soon-to-be grandson. He is also survived by his siblings Randy (Tammy), Kelly (Tim), and Nikki (JP); and many beloved relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bob, and his grandchildren Taigen, Thomas, and Emily.

A Graveside Service will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens (7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321) on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 11 a.m. following the Graveside Service, a Celebration of Greg's life will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles (6567 Bloomfield Road, Des Moines, IA 50320).

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Marshalltown VA staff for their years of care, compassion, and support-they treated Greg like family.

"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life." -John 5:24
