I had Dr. Gouran as teacher for 2 Acting classes; as my Theatre major advisor; & as my director in The Rimers of Eldritch & Threepenny Opera. He was a big part of my years at Iowa State & was much admired by all. He is truly missed.

He was one of the most important acting teachers and directors I'd ever had. Pat was probably in his early 50s when I became involved in ISU Theater. Five of us made up the core of ISU Theater's student performers: Jim Serpento, Rodney Armentrout, Kelli Hamlow, Charlene Bagbey, and me, Laura Runyan. What a huge loss Pat's death will be to both the theater program but also his students.

I participated in a the production of "Heroes Among Us" in 2001. Doc was an ever present positive influence on the creative process and a sweet man. He will be sorely missed.

I babysat for Pat and Gayle when Tim and Brian were very young. We spent a lot of time together and they were very kind and good to me. Deepest sympathy to Tim and Brian. Jennifer Jewell

I just learned of Pat's death and am quite shocked. Pat is one of a handful of mentors who have helped greatly to make me what I am today. My only hope is that a small portion of his infectious enthusiasm for life carries on in me. Thanks "Doc" for everything!

I took Theater 106 in 1990 as a stress-reliever class. His enthusiasm and honest approach to teaching made it exactly what I needed that semester; no matter how busy I was, I never dreamed of skipping. I'm stunned and saddened to hear that he has passed, but I know he enjoyed life and his work to the fullest.
