RICHARD T. ARKWRIGHT

Corpus Christi, TX

Richard T. Arkwright passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 after a nearly four year battle with cancer at the age of 82.

Son of D.L. Arkwright and Adeline S. Arkwright, he was reared in Des Moines and graduated from Dowling High School. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps and a graduate of The University of Notre Dame. Richard married Nancy Ann Kurtz of Des Moines, Iowa on December 30, 1950. Dick was a Sales/Marketing Manager for The Mennen Company for over 30 years. He moved to Dallas, Texas in 1960 and reared his family in that area until being transferred to Birmingham, Michigan in 1974. Upon retiring in 1984, Dick and Nancy moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where he has been active in volunteer activities since that time. He was the former president of SCORE; arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau; Mediator for Nueces County Resolution Center; Board Member of Nueces County Resolution Center; Former President of the Citizens Police Academy Alumni; Two-time Chairman of The Board of Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers; Member of the Public Protection Committee of Council of Governments (COG); A Member of The Training Advisory Board of Corpus Christi Police Academy; and thirteen year Chairman of his Condominium Board. He is a member of the International Order of Alhambra.

Dick is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Nancy and their six good children; Ann E. Witucki of Houston, R. Thomas (Judy) Arkwright, Jr. of Allen Park, Michigan; Theresa L. (Mike) Egner of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Kathryn M. (Stephen) Duerr of Corpus Christi, Stephen D. (Jennifer) Arkwright of Clarkston, Michigan and William J. (Susie) Arkwright of Dallas. Mr. Arkwright is also survived by ten wonderful grandchildren; Mark J. Witucki of Houston, Allison V. Witucki of Dallas, Richard T. Arkwright, III of Allen Park, Second Lieutenant Patrick M. Arkwright, USAF of Laughlin AFB, Kevin M. Duerr of Dallas, Matthew S. Duerr of Dallas, Nicholas C. Arkwright of Clarkston, Michael D. Arkwright of Clarkston, Alexandria B. Arkwright of Dallas and Abigail J. Arkwright of Dallas.In addition to his parents, Mr. Arkwright was preceded in death by his son David Gerard, his sister Marjorie S. Arkwright, his brother John L. Arkwright and his son-in-law James Witucki.

Rosary service will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 6:30 p.m., Friday, June 25, 2010. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 26, 2010.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the American Heart Association or M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital. Services under the direction of Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Service,Inc., 1222 Morgan Ave., Corpus Christi, Texas 78404, (361) 884-2411.
