Robert Allen Obituary
Des Moines
Bob, 97, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Wesley Acres in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Bob was born in Wisconsin and then moved to Dubuque with his parents Tom and Nellie, where he lived thru his mid senior year of high school. His family then moved to Des Moines, where he graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1935. Bob attended Drake University for two years. He worked in the millwork business with his father for a few years. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Dreyer and they were married for over 50 years. They joined the Cottage Grove Presbyterian Church over 50 years ago, where Bob was still a member. Bob sold life insurance with Connecticut General Life and retired at the 65. He was a former President of the Des Moines Association of Life Underwriters, Iowa Association of Health Underwriters, Des Moines Jaycee's and the Des Moines Izaak Walton League of which he was an active member. Bob was also a member of the Des Moines Woodworkers Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and woodworking.
He is survived by his sons, Timothy J. (Nancy) and Terry S. (Anna); step-son, John Peterson; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; daughter, Diane; and brother, John R.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Izaak Walton League of Des Moines.

Bob was a most wonderful gentleman. I remember him from Church and later he was
not only my friend but a terrific insurance man. So sorry for your loss.
