Roger Corley Obituary

Roger Corley

Waukee

Bass Fishing Legend, Roger Vernon Corley, 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, February 12, 2017, at home in Waukee, IA. A "Life Celebration" will take place at Uncle Buck's Fishbowl inside Bass Pro Shops in Altoona, IA, from 5 - 9 pm March 3rd. Family, friends and customers are welcome to share stories, appetizers, drinks, and bowling. The first drink is on Roger ... as usual.

He was born December 17, 1938, in Decatur, IL, to Earl "Blackie" and Kledus (Corley) Corley. He married Jeanice Donna Doss and raised their three boys in Altoona. Roger was a hard worker and would do anything for family, friends, and total strangers. He was probably the most generous person on the planet! Roger loved his daily TV bible study with Les Feldick and always said "I can't wait to get to heaven to talk to Noah and Jesus too!"

Roger was deeply committed to The Boys Scouts of America, where he accomplished many achievements including Eagle Scout. He worked as an executive for The Boy Scouts and was responsible for starting new troops in many cities in Colorado including Keystone, Silverthorne and Vail.

Roger owned Corley Door Company for 41 years, retiring only a few months ago. He loved his customers and always put them first. His motto was "I always treat customers the way I would want them to treat my mother". He was a proud member of Iowa BASS Nation, Hawkeye Bass Anglers, and Cedar Rapids Bassmasters. At age 77, fighting cancer, he qualified for the state team to compete in the Central Regional BASS Tournament on Lake Guntersville, AL; inspiring countless people - and that's no fish story!

Roger inspired sons Bryan and Christian for a new product that plugs into your navlight port on your boat and charges your cell phone. Two years later the patented product line (YOLOtek.com) expanded and now includes powered GoPro mounts that let you fly down the water at 70MPH filming your adventures. Most of the pros are using them including living legends Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, and KVD. Will be available in all Bass Pro Shops in the next few months.

Roger is survived by his three sons, Bryan (Kristie), Christian (Tina), and Darren (Elizabeth); his grandchildren, Austin, Brad, Dakota, Mia, Todd, Julie, Michelle, and Emily; and his great grandchildren, Sophia, Aiden, Jasper and soon to be Alice. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanice; his father, Blackie; mother, Kledus; and brothers, Leroy, Lyle, Jack, and Mike.

Memorial contributions to promote youth fishing can be sent to Iowa BASS Nation, 4523 Coventry Ln NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402 www.IABass.com
