Scott and I met and became friends at Boys State in the summer of 1965. After that we were friendly competitors as high school athletes and later as coaches. I liked him even though he was from Winterset, and he liked me, I think, even though I was from Knoxville. I was very sorry to learn of his death and extend my sympathies to his family.

Scott and I shared a (portable) classroom together in our early teaching math days. Our similar teaching styles allowed us to have a lot of fun teaching middle school students. We also shared numerous stories about our track teams! I will remember attending graduate school classes with Scott, running crews for Pioneer when we detasseled, playing slow pitch softball when we could actually run, and our many recent visits in his sunroom reminiscing special times together.
May the peace of the Lord be with the Osborn family.
